Is the thought that he is supposed to apply for a medical redshirt and sit out this year?

I spoke with Lonnie following the SMSU game and he was not planning on taking a medical redshirt. His shoulder is getting better and he should be ready to go in the "next couple weeks."

Lonnie would have no need to take a "medical" redshirt in any case, since he played as a true freshman and as a sophomore. If he didn't play this year he'd still have two years of eligibility remaining. "Medical" redshirts only come into play for players seeking a sixth year of eligibility.

When he does come back, he'll be shaking off a lot of rust. He hasn't played regularly since early in the conference schedule last season. It'll be interesting to see how effective he'll be.

That isn't always the case , Medical redshirts come into play in cases where a player plays some of the games then sustains a season ending injury then applies for redshirt. If a player gets hurt early in the year and plays in less than 20% (I think that is the percentage of games) of the games they are eligible for a medical redshirt. A good example is Alando Tucker who played 5 games and redshirted due to his foot or Virginia big man Mike Scott who played a few games last year and hurt his knee.

Good point, but Lonnie obviously hasn't played yet. Until and unless he does, it's not an issue.

I haven’t read this on this board yet, so I apologize if I’m repeating this. Lonnie Boga is currently on the basketball roster at Drury University, a NCAA Division 2 program, in Springfield, MO. Oddly enough Drury University’s nickname is the Panthers. They also compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the same conference as UW-Parkside. www.drurypanthers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1530&path=Also, Drury University is the alma mater of the legendary broadcaster Bob Barker. www.drury.edu/multinl/story.cfm?ID=19540&NLID=121
