Relief. Just pure unbridled relief. That's what I feel right now.
It would have been an intolerably long ride home had we lost.
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the team would benefit from a longer rotation.

But I think to dismiss or invalidate the contributions he will give us in all of the other games he plays for us because he's "too short" is a bit silly. That's not what I'm saying whatsoever. I'm not trying to disrespect James, because I LOVE his game. My concern is for the team if we can't figure out how to run an offense without a post game to go through. You won't be able to run your offense through James against bigger teams. Time will tell. I hope we can figure it out... I fully agree with you that it's most advantageous to be able to run an offense through touches at the post. While I think it would be difficult for James to have a similar post presence to Ant Hill, I don't think that his height necessarily bars him from establishing a meaningful post presence. He won't be backing everyone down, nor will he have crafty first and second step Ant had, but I believe he'll be just as effective at getting to the line, and at least posing some offensive threat in the post. Its important to remember that a bulk of Ants production came from the line. I don't think James will have a problem with bulk, he was able to easily bull Toler (260lbs.) under the bucket, but he could struggle with length (6'8+). However, if history is any indication, smaller offensive players have one distinct advantage over longer and bigger defensive players. If there is contact, the ref will normally side with the undersized offensive player. I think this presents itself as a great opportunity for James to still be productive against much larger opposition. He's got great fundamentals and is good enough at working himself into position that we should be able to still get plenty of touches to the post. Even if he is not converting on those touches, it's still a good catalyst for a productive offensive set, and can potentially draw help defense leaving another Panther open. "Sometimes the threat is more effective than it's actual execution" Just my opinion, I'm excited to see how the season unfolds...

I was also thinking that Evan Richard and Demetrius Harris should play more than a combined 15 minutes. At this rate, the starters (162 combined minutes Monday out of 200) are going to have tired legs by the end of November.

This game proves how bad we need J.J., I highly doubt they will change their mind and opt to not use his redshirt but his size, defense and post moves would be a HUGE addition to the offense.

I would like to see some more bench minutes but those guys have to earn them. The bench was not productive last night. And for everybody except Hags that was there first road game at the division 1 college level.

And for everybody except Hags, that was (their) first road game at the Division 1 college level. ... against Northern Illinois, in front of 500 curious onlookers. It's only going to get tougher from here. Will each starter play the full 40 minutes against Michigan State?

As someone who fully advocated using the redshirt on J.J., you may be right... As others have said... Can't wait for Tony to get back on the court...

This team will come together and play better as the season progresses. We seem to play average at best in the non-con the last couple years before turning it on in conference play.
That being said the sooner we gel the better.
I just want to be 4-0 heading into the Michigan St. game next week.

In 25 minutes of play Kyle Kelm needs to have more than 2 rebounds.

poor performances are part of the game, and I'm not going to draw any conclusions from a 2 game sample.
I'm definitely not hitting the panic button yet. I remember last year, the sentiment on this board was very similar when our team was 9-11 with a 24pt loss to Wright State and a 17pt loss to Valpo. That team went on to win the regular season conference title.
J.J. is still an option, and I assume he will still be an option up to 8-10 games into the season if we really need him, and if the coaches think that we need more height. At this point I'm much more concerned about all of the missed defensive assignments and turnovers. If it's fatigue that is causing some of Kaylons turnovers, play Shaq or Paris for more minutes. I agree that Evan and Demetrius need to see more minutes on the floor.

As a big fan of Double K, I totally agree!!! +1 I think Kyle just needs to adjust to playing more minutes, and being a bigger part of the team. He hasn't had the confidence building "great game" yet. He had a decent rebounding night in the season opener, and we were frustrated with his offensive production. Against NIU he had a decent offensive outing, and we were frustrated with the lack of rebounds. I think he needs to have a solid 12pt 8reb game to give him some confidence. Oh, and he needs to really work on his defensive assignments.

My point was playing on the road is different and that was the first experience for most of the bench.
