How much of an impact on the college game will Jurgen Klinsmann have now that he's taken over the USMNT position? Especially with the new youth academies taking root in the MLS clubs, I could see those academies becoming more prominent in the coming decades.

The athletic department will be giving Panther scarves away to fans that attend the October 1st men's soccer game vs. Cleveland St. I have not seen the scarves yet but I hear they are pretty sweet! They will also be giving them away at one of the women's games too.

Top rivalries in college soccer: www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page1575.htm#10 - Marquette and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee This match-up is known as the Milwaukee Cup. You can count it as one of the more storied derby matches in college soccer. The winner of the match receives the Milwaukee Cup which is a legendary, old, and by the way very heavy trophy that goes to the campus of the winner each year. The contest draws thousands every year and is usually televised locally. The schools are about ten minutes from each other which contributes to the excitement and intensity of the contest. This game holds the record for the largest crowd in the history of either program. The Panthers from Wisconsin-Milwaukee pretty much dominated the series in the past but Marquette has begun to level the playing field which has added to the rivalry. In fact, UWM has won only once the last four times the two teams have tangled. This one clicked up more than a few degrees in intensity in 2006 when head coach Louis Bennett and assistant coach Stan Anderson elected to jump ship leaving UWM after ten very successful seasons to move cross town to Marquette. When Bennett made the initial move he was asked what the Marquette-UWM match-up would be like. He stated, “Probably that game will require the highest amount of professionalism and the highest amount of emotional control for all of us.” He added, “It’s exciting for me because soccer needs this kind of excitement and interest. This just adds more and more spice to this game.” If you are a player or fan for either Marquette or UWM and can’t get fired up for this one you better check your pulse.

I'm glad I was able to get to the first half of the match tonight, saw both our goals. Even better to see that the boys held on for the W.
They've really come a long way from last season, Wally has made some awesome moves with new talent and off season training. I think we are on our way back to our former powerhouse status.
MKE Cup winners 2 years running!!

From the JS... "Bennett argued with several members of the UWM staff after the game in what clearly was an emotional defeat for the Marquette coach."
Does anyone know what Turncoat Louis was b****ing about?

Bennett could have had something special at UWM had he stayed, but his arrogance and greed got the better of him. The only reason why he's still employed at Marquette is the fact that they don't give a flying f*ck about men's soccer.

I hope the athletic department never puts up that barrier in front of the student section. Or at least nothing more than a short fence.

I was very pleased with everything - the problems at the Cell such as lack of identity and energy don't exist at Engelmann. There is so much signage, you can't look in any direction and have any question whose house you're in. The barrier that stood between the student section and the field when I was a student wasn't there, and guess what - no problems with students going on the field during play. In fact, Super King is right - I hope they never put that barrier back up, because it was great seeing Milwaukee score and then having the team immediately run to the student section for a combined celebration. From my seats at the 50-yard line (haha)...er...midfield, we couldn't tell who the players were and who the students were. It's amazing - Engelmann is just as great as it always has been, but now it's better. Kudos to the department for making it even better.
