Here's the part that sticks out to me:

UW-Madison and Marquette also held events Saturday, but UWM’s was the largest.

“We had about 125 come today,” Bartel said. “Just hearing from people who say, ‘I haven’t had contact with the university in years.’ They think it’s so great that we come out here to meet with them.”

There are about 1,500 UWM alumni who live in the Valley, a number of which made the short trip out as well.

The most senior of the alums graduated in the 1950’s, but at least one Panther from each decade since attended the event.

Suck it, Madison! Suffice to say, the better the basketball team does, the more people will be interested in this in the future. Especially if it's held right after the NCAA Tournament so that coaches and administrators (and former players, I suppose) can attend without distraction.

Not exactly true - I used to have an internship with UWMAA, and the spring training Alumni event is one of the biggest events outside of Milwaukee every year.

It hadn't happened since 2002, so I don't know which event you're referring to.

Ah, I remember, I was thinking of the UWM day at Miller Park.

But a Phoenix-area alumni gathering makes sense - because it's a huge base.
