Congrats to all the great Panther fans ... hope you guys get to continue the season somewhere. Also, I know I've taken some shots at Mitch, but he played well tonight!
Now, anyone (Jimmy) suggesting that Hill is better than Howard needs to give me an explanation of what transpired tonight. If you want to bring in career stats, go ahead. I know the only thing that Howard cares about is wins ... and he leads that comparison 112 to 70.
I'm just happy that Butler won despite getting half the FT attempts ... still not sure what Jeter was complaining about all night.
In any case, congrats. You guys are much more fun to chat with than guys on the other boards. Look forward to more great competition in the future.

Now, anyone (Jimmy) suggesting that Hill is better than Howard needs to give me an explanation of what transpired tonight. Clutch and grab. Hard to play the game with one hand tied behind your back. C'mon, Eddie. I expected better than this from you tonight. Abetted by Chris Beaver and Lamar Simpson, the Bulldogs used the Cleveland State approach tonight: commit as many fouls as you humanly can and hope only a third of them are called. Not saying the officials cost the Panthers the game, as they simply didn't shoot the ball well enough to win. But it sure would have been nice to see a different set of officials on the floor. Good luck to the Bulldogs in the NCAAs.

Come on guys, calls were bad for both sides. On Howard's third foul all he does is get into position and get run over by Boyle, should have been a foul on Tone. Smith did absolutely nothing on his fourth foul. Tone flopped on Butcher's third foul. Bad calls went both ways.
We had a great season. Butler played a great game and played within themselves and the game plan. Just sucks that we lost.

gman, here's what a Marquette/Bucks fan friend of mine said unsolicited as we exited the Arena:
"It's just a shame the game was called like it was, especially against UWM. I rarely complain about the officials, but they just never allowed the game to have any flow.
"Now, I'm not sure UWM would have won, but it definitely would have been a better, more entertaining game with a different set of officials."
That sums it up perfectly for me.
Next time, we would do well to lose the stage fright at the start and continue to do the things that got us to this point, no matter what shmucks are calling the game.
Good luck to the Bulldogs in the NCAAs.
I would like to remind everyone that two of the assigned officials for tonight's game were on the same crew that called last year's semifinal at Hinkle. A member of the assembled media mentioned this to some of us as a potential issue before the game began.
How does this keep happening in our most important game?

It's hard to make a case for Hill when he has one attempt in the first half. Close to a double-double despite being double-doubled most times on defense.

Hill suffered for the fact that Kaylon Williams had probably the worst game of his life.

You know I like you guys ... I just let Jimmy get under my skin. In addition to the bad referees, you guys might want to consider that Mitchell Carter outscored your starting backcourt ... that could also have been a factor in the outcome.

In addition to the bad referees, you guys might want to consider that Mitchell Carter outscored your starting backcourt ... that could also have been a factor in the outcome. Two-thirds of it, at least. No question, Eddie. Those were almost my exact words as time ticked down: When Mitchell Carter is your sixth-leading scorer, it's a sign that you probably had a rough night. Of course, after all Kaylon and Ja' Rob did for us to get to this stage, it's tough to be critical. The shame in all of this is that a league as good as the Horizon will only get one NCAA tournament team.

Thinking back how things looked at the start of the year, I'm not going to let one off-night spoil what the team was able to accomplish this year. Things were so bad in the beginning, that I remember hearing Jimmy yell "put me in" during the Western Michigan game at Klotsche, because the team was playing so poorly. All losses hurt, but I don't feel like this one hurts quite as bad as the UIC loss at home in 2004. That may have something to do with the coach though... The future's definitely bright for Milwaukee, and the season isn't over yet.

We have to make our shots in order to win. We have to avoid stupid mistakes like throwing the ball directly to an opposing player. We have to hold onto rebounds instead of letting them slip through our fingers and go out of bounds.
All that being said, we also have to have a center who isn't being mugged so bad that he can't get the ball and put it up and when he does get it, put it up without all the bumping, hitting and grabbing with few fouls being called.
Our inside game is such a huge part of our offense that when it's taken away like that all kinds of other things will go wrong.
That being said, the fact is that bad refs favoring the other team are part of the game. They shouldn't be the reason we miss easy layups and who knows how many shots from point blank range, take bad shots that hit the backboard no where near the rim etc. That's what cost us the game.
We played like we did before the turn around and it showed in the score.
But I'm still proud of our Panthers. They did their best and that's all we can ask.

The lights were a little too bright for us yesterday. This group of Bulldogs knows those lights, and brighter ones, very well, and it showed.
On the season we still proved ourselves the better team, straight up. Two out of three. But in this superheated setting, Butler was clearly the better team.
We had our chances when we closed to three, but we couldn't get out of our own way. Sixteen turnovers including 6 from our point guard. You almost cannot win a basketball game with those statistics -- at least not one I'd ever want to see. Ball security is something we have to make our absolute number one priority in the offseason.
But the good news is that even after a tough night this season is not over. And winning the regular season title and hosting the championship game in front of 10,000 Milwaukee fans is something we took away from Butler and can always be proud of.
As for the Bulldogs, they are rounding into shape at a great time, and will be the bane of some high major teams again in the NCAA.

This superheated setting.. Fran, no truer words have been spoken. I must have shed three layers of clothing during the game. I think it must have been about 83 degrees down on the floor. (I wonder what it felt like last night in Sioux Falls?) You're right, ultimately the stage was too grand for the Panthers. The good news, of course, is that this is just the beginning. J.J. and Shaq were soaking it all in last night with big smiles.

Also, considering the experience and returning starters next year, it's hard to say that the experts won't pick us as a pre-season fav.

Also, considering the experience and returning starters next year, it's hard to say that the experts won't pick us as a pre-season fav. I know many like our incoming class as well as some of our underclassman but with Ant and Boyle both gone do you really think we'll be a pre-season favorite?
