yea someone posted it in another thread but I think it is deserving of its own.
Idk if we should be called bid stealers since we won the conference and Butler is no guarantee of an at-large (Although I think they will get one) but regardless its nice to get some national pub.

Hate the term "bid-stealers."
Unless, of course, it's used in conjunction with the names Alabama, Baylor, Boston College, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Penn State.
Now, they would be stealing bids.

I still love that we actually have more RPI top-50 wins than Michigan.

I don't have any problem with the term bid-stealers. You guys are too sensitive. In fact, since our record would absolutely preclude us from getting an at-large bid, we certainly will be "stealing" a bid from some other team (whether it's a high or a mid) if we win the HLT.
We are a very, very worthy regular season champion of the Horizon League with our 9-0 run through the conference, but we are also clearly not worthy of the NCAA tournament based on our full season record.
Very good article.

Good point, Fran, until our RPI is at least 68, bid-stealers is a fair term.

Very good article. I agree ... they refer to Milwaukee as "bid-stealers" because Butler is currently in as an at-large in most brackets. Let's face it ... Milwaukee gets in via the auto bid and Butler holds onto that at-large, that's "stealing" a bid from another at-large contender. Doesn't matter if it's stealing it from Michigan, Gonzaga or Utah State.

They should have done more to earn it.

Have to say I'm with King on this one.
The regular-season champions of a very good mid-major league should be representing their conference in the first place (I'm old school; it matters more what you've done over two and a half months than what you do for four days.) Combine that with a tournament championship in that same very good mid-major conference and I don't see how they're stealing a bid from anyone ... least of all a middling BCS team like Baylor or Minnesota.

The notion that the fourth, fifth, sixth, etc., finisher in a "major" conference "deserves" a bid that a mid-major team "steals" is questionable.
Yes, i'm aware that the level of competition varies from conference to conference. Does it follow that a lower finisher in a more competitive conference "deserves" a bid over a higher finisher in a less competitive conference?
No. If you're going to argue that case, you need something more than a nebulous "they play in a tougher conference" argument. Quantify it. Argue that the lower finisher has a better RPI, and/or a better record against Top 50 or Top 100 RPI, and i'm willing to listen.
Of course, i have not been nor am i ever likely to be on the selection committee, so my opinion is worth everything you paid for it

If Detroit wins the tournament, they would be a bid-stealer in my opinion. A first place team winning the tournament isn't a bid-stealer.
