Ray McCallum Jr. earned Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference because he helped lead a team of talented returnees from 10 wins a year ago to 13 wins and a share of the regular-season league championship this season! Er, wait a second. That was another point guard? I have to agree, after watching some games this year I see no reason why lil Ray got the NOY award or 2nd team, I just really didn't see that much in him this year. I am not saying he doesn't show major promise and there is a reason that he was getting offers from UCLA & Zona, but this year I m sorry wasn't impressed and think he is a bit over-rated, this year. Kaylon should have been the NOY IMO without him this team is not that good at all, and i can't see how Detroit would have been much different this year without lil Ray

I don't think Ray Jr should have been NOY either (mainly because of his middling team), but saying he's overrated is overstepping it a little bit. To be the leading scorer and third-leading rebounder on your team while averaging damn near 5 assists and 2 steals per game as a Freshman? That's pretty incredible if you ask me.

Oh I don't mean to say that the kid isn't super talented, I guess i just think with as much hype as this kid had coming into this year, he didn't really im press me in the games i saw of him, but is just my observation of him in what i will admit was limited viewings of him.

I didn't here about it this morning and then I had an exam and then I was not around for most of the day so when I got here I had just found out. It sucks, I should be more on top of things like I usually am

Thought this would probably be best placed here ...
Bill (and Steve) were the guests on today's Roundtable with Dennis Krause on Time Warner Sports 32 and here's a quick synopsis of what was said:
1, Dennis to Bill: "You've forgotten more about the Horizon League than I'll ever know."
2, Bill said he wishes that Kaylon would have gotten second-team all-conference honors, as the Panthers reversed their fortunes when they accepted his leadership.
3, Bill said another player to keep an eye on is Ryan Allen, who he said was a special athlete who has a knack for making big defensive plays at crunch time.

Jeter named Horizon's top coach www.jsonline.com/sports/panthers/117122973.html"I don't know another guard in the league in his first year that took his team to a championship," said Jeter. "And led a group and earned their trust, and the trust of the staff, and the respect of the league like Kaylon did." Has Rob been reading this board?

Surprise, I am Rob Jeter. I too am Rob Jeter. I have a hard time calling Ryan Allen a guard. He isn't even a mid-major small forward, he is a bona fide small forward with small forward skills and ability. If he got starters minutes he would put up impressive rebound and block numbers. Having an athlete like Ryan on the floor gives us a much needed weapon, allowing us to hang with anyone.

I'm so happy for Rob Jeter and the coaching staff!
I hope this can be a sign for good things to come, years from now for the Panther program.
