This game has no point. Patrick Souter, Mitchell Carter, and Christian Wolf should all get 20+ minutes. We shouldn't be playing to win by 20 (if we can). We should be playing to win the NEXT game.

Its a tough call on how to approach this game.
IF (and its a big IF at this point) we go into the Buffalo game with a 7 game winning streak, do you risk what momentum the team has going for it by treating it like an exhibition?
Or do you treat it as any other game, play your best guys and hope to keep it rolling, with the real possibility that it may wear some of the guys out?
I honestly think you can make a reasonable argument for either side.
And if we didn't play in this silly ESPN event, we would have to debate it at all.

I honestly think you can make a reasonable argument for either side. And if we didn't play in this silly ESPN event, we would have to debate it at all. The guys on the court should be playing hard and trying to win. They should also be playing about 18-20 minutes and that's all. And if we were nationally ranked right now -- god forbid -- this game would be huge for our tournament opportunities. Just like the nonconference games against Marquette and Wisconsin, it doesn't matter when we're not a bubble team, but if we are it can mean everything. So we should continue our involvement. Plus it helps sort out a little bit of our non-con next year, which means less work for the guys in the front office, and they deserve a 5-minute break every now and then... And remember that we lost this game last season smack in the middle of what turned out to be a 7-game conference winning streak. So I don't think a loss in this game really matters that much.

IMO For teams vying for any postseason play, you must take every game seriously. Period. Taking any game off that counts toward your division 1 record is self destructive not only in a literal sense, but as Lou eluded to, Who would want to kill that momentum?
At this point (and I hate to be an optimist) we do need to take this game seriously. Joke around all you want but a CIT bid is a step in the right direction for this program, and if we do in fact have 8 wins in a row after playing Niagara we are very much in play for an NIT bid. Not to mention if we do make a HLT run and make the NCAA tournament, one regular season game can have an impact in where we are seeded.
The bracket buster has helped our cause in the past, and will again. As mentioned, there are still teams in need of a signature win to help them off the bubble, or get them into the conversation. We need the participation of teams like Butler and BYU in the future to keep the event relative, and if the marquee mid majors participate, it will help those trying to get attention. Great event! obviously watered down a bit.
