Buppie:
Butler isn't part of this year's BracketBuster. The Bulldogs swapped out their participation in the now-bloated event for a national championship rematch against Duke in East Rutherford.

Too bad we have to make a long trip. That's what bothers me. I couldn't care less about the game itself -- we sure as hell aren't getting any at-large bids either way. We should be focused on Cleveland State. The last thing we need in that circumstance is a long road trip.

"Too bad we have to make a long trip. That's what bothers me."
And now, with plans for our trip to Cleveland surely arranged, we have consecutive road trips out east just five days apart. On Feb. 19, we're in Buffalo and on Feb. 24, we're in Cleveland.
Such are the cruel vagaries of BracketBuster pool play.

All things considered, it's not a bad road trip. NMSU, Rider, Fairfield, LBSU, UCSB, Charleston were all very real possibilities that are farther than Buffalo. Indiana State would have been ideal geographically speaking, but let's not act like Buffalo is on the other end of the country. They're big boys. They can handle it.

Again, cherry-pick the projected top two or three teams from each of six bona fide mid-major leagues across the country and give them a true showcase on one of the four ESPN family of networks and leave the rest of us out of it.
What in the world would we have gotten out of any of the other trips you mentioned, K-Raw?

I'm not defending the Bracket Busters per se, just that Buffalo is one of the shorter road trips among the possibilities. People were talking like Buffalo was this huge trek, it's not. But now that you mention it , I'll play devil's advocate. We didn't get an exciting draw this year, but that's on us for not beating the teams we needed to. The BBs match up two teams that are having comparable seasons. If only those teams you mentioned played, what would the rest do? Just not play? And how does that help a team like us out? It gives us another chance to prove ourselves. Another chance to prove we are worthy, whether it be the NCAA, NIT, CIT, CBI or whatever. To prove we are worthy of postseason action, we need games. Not days off.

Agreed that Buffalo is one of the shorter trips among the ones you mentioned, which really only further illustrates my point.
As for the rest, especially given our February record under Rob, what would be so bad about, well, rest?

We're not playing a game. We're just in different mindsets here. To me, it's an opportunity. To better our RPI and give us another win to try and get in a postseason tournament. Vacation doesn't do that. What we need at this point is to improve our numbers enough to make it to one of those tournaments, imo. And the easiest way to do that is to play, and win, games. I'll modify the Gretzky quote, "You lose 100% of the games you don't play."

Look at what the 2011 BracketBuster has netted Wright State:
A deservedly good draw (Hofstra, No. 96) but an 11 a.m. tip at the Nutt House.
Will there even be 1,000 people on hand?
Not exactly the best showcase for the Horizon League.

It's the new 11AM ET time start this season for ESPNU games.

Not exactly the best showcase for the Horizon League. If 1,000 people don't show up for Hofstra, it is in no way ESPN and the their selection committee's fault. It is 100% on Wright State University. I'm as little a morning person as you'll find, and somehow I think I'd manage to get ready by 11.

Beating Buffalo gets us nowhere. This event is a complete waste of time for us and has been for five years. I'll start paying attention to this game as soon as it bears any relevance to a post-season birh, and I'm not talking about shams like the CBI or CIT or AT&T. How is playing Buffalo better than getting rest as Dylan noted?

When Wright State played Northeastern a few years ago with an 11:00AM start on ESPNU, attendance was listed at over 5,000.
