Wauker, as a student section leader for three years, any ideas on how to get traditions out to incoming students is helpful, Jimmy and I along with many others have spent hours and hours trying to recruit and inform new students of game day traditions but everything seemed to fall short for one reason or another. I dont even know the long nights i've spent trying to think of new ideas to make the game day experience funner for students that are not up to par with traditions.
I guess if i were you i would talk with the guys up front about your ideas.

Honestly as a student section leader we are "leaders" only because we goto the games and know the others that do. Thats the issue we have no real power.
If someone wants to get others to come to the game its awesome, you can only push the freshman so much and honestly the real issue is school spirit and campus pride not just with athletics but in the whole aspect of the meaning. We can't fix this alone.

I'm going over to Levar's office today. This is done. I'm not going to graduate in 13 days with nothing accomplished from years of dedication. We're starting something here...call it a "brain trust"...something where everyone, students or alumni or fans, can collaborate on ways to end this garbage of small student attendance and lack of cheering. I hear you loud and clear, Wauker. All right, I'm putting this in bold so you can all look at this part. ANYONE who wants to participate, whether it's just throwing a couple ideas out or becoming fully involved in the marketing and recruitment and education of students, send an e-mail to jimmylemke@gmail.com and we can work on this together. I hope to hear from everyone in this thread, milwsport and several others. Something needs to be done. I'll make sure that anyone and everyone can get their ideas heard (in person or through me) by our marketing department, and if that doesn't work we'll do it our damn selves. Send me that e-mail now, include a name, e-mail address and phone number so we can get cracking. GO PANTHERS!Oh and dunnedeal, you're not really going to games much anymore are ya

I have mixed feelings towards many things in this discussion. Wauker i love your enthusiasm and efforts but you are being a lil harsh on the front row or so called leaders. if you have a problem why dont you set an example and lead yourself? this is always what jimmy has told me. There is no set "leaders" as dunnedeal has stated it is just the guys who go to every game no matter the sport and we are friends with the other guys who do as well. it is a small number of guys who do this but we do it. wauker i do agree though that there is a lack in the student section whether it be leadership or participation by others or whatever it is there needs to be something done. Now i was not at the CSU game because i was in Illinois for hockey but i think of myself as a "Leader" of the student section and i know the other guys would say i am and therefore i will take full responsibility for what happened at the game saturday night. From what my roommate tells me that only a few people stayed and high-fived the coaches and players? that is unacceptable. I dont care if they lost to MSOE by 30 points you stay there and support your team. we are not going to be damn bandwagon fans and piss and moan like a bunch of lil school girls just because they lost. big deal they arent perfect and we are far from it. Yes i want them to win and do their best and sometimes they dont but im still going to cheer for them and give them support. I was most disappointed this year at the WMU game though. when we started crying and complaining and yelling at our athletes to do their job better. that is ridiculous. i was embarassed to be a student section leader then because it was other leaders who were talking crap. Me being an athlete and player it sucks to be yelled at from the fans but you learn to ignore it but especially when your own fans, especially students, are yelling at you and telling you you arent doing your job and asking the coach to put you as a fan in the game. Come on guys lets get real here. we need to do a better job at games for cheering and support and stop acting like babies and jerks when we are losing. Yes i was upset and disappointed in our efforts at WMU but i didnt call out the coaches or players during the game or after it in fact. Wauker also, i was a freshman last year living in sandburg now a sophomore obviously. I learned the cheers and all the things to do through experience. Jimmy, pinch, and no one else showed me what to do, i just caught on. when you hear us cheering start cheering. for the fight song we dont sing the words we do our lil clapping and fist pump things and say go panthers or w/e. i cant even think of it off hand becaus it is 2nd nature now. if you would like us to show you though we can and we can show whoever else wants to know. other than that though i just learned from watching and doing it. With getting students to games, others and i have gone into Jeter's, Chip's, coach whalley, and LeVar's office many times this year to bounce ideas off them, see how things are going, and get ideas from them to better the student sections. Levar, pinch, and I are working on some big things that will start to take in starting next year. But we are the ones who are going into their offices on average of once a week trying to figure things out. Its hard to reach out to the kids in Dorms since the Athletic Department has restrictions on what they can do in their thats why we are working on a way to get to all incoming freshmen. Soi am done ranting now i think. I believe i have touched on everything that i wanted to talk about i hope. if you guys want to get ahold me and talk hit me up. 920-382-6512 i am always open for ideas and suggestions and to work my butt of for this school. my twitter is @cuban30. I am an officer for the student black and gold club along with the hockey club. i am always workign witht he marketing/athletic department and going to games. I am disappointed with attendance at games and we are trying to fix this.

Why do places like Great Clips & Super Cuts need my phone number? I just want a hair cut, I don't want to be in their database.

"Why does Radio Shack ask for your phone number when you buy batteries?"
Some time ago, someone told us to put the kibosh on this stuff.
"Do you know what the kibosh means?!"

per Mitch Hedberg (RIP)
I bought a donut the other day and they gave me a receipt. Why? I give you the money, you give me the donut; end of transaction. I just cannot imagine the scenario where I would need to prove that I bought a donut. Some really skeptical friend? Don't even act like I didn't get that donut, man, I got the documentation right here.....oh wait, it's back home in the file.

"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." "When I was a boy, I laid in my twin size bed and wondered where my brother was." "I got some tartar control toothpaste. I still got tartar, but it’s under control. If the tartar gets out of line, it's like, c'mon man…you know the deal. Fall in…you crazy ass tartar." "I think Pringles initial intention was to make tennis balls. But on the day the rubber was supposed to show up, a big truckload of potatoes arrived. And Pringles is a laid back company. They said, ‘f**k it! Cut ‘em up!’” LOL. Mitch was/is one of the greatest. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-zFQ9fOTSU&feature=relatedBut this has gotten way off topic... I think the student section regulars and student section leaders are right on. We do need to be supportive even on the bad nights (and it is very hard to do that down by 30). I am interested in what plans the students and the AD marketing have in store for next year. I guess we'll wait and see. Please don't hesitate to PM me if there is anything i can do to help.

We do need to be supportive of the team no matter what, because they are panthers. The coach on the other hand...
I was definitely the most critical of Jeter when he was hired, but I've backed off of that in recent years a bit because he does recruit quality people and players. That being said, to say we shouldn't care about winning is a load of crap. This is definitely a place where a winning program can be established, and remain that way. Being a middle of the pack horizon league team might have been acceptable at one time, but IMO this should no longer be acceptable. We have a good recruiting base here in Wisconsin and the midwest to draw from, we have above average facilities for a mid-major, and surprisingly we spend a lot of money on this coaching staff and program.
I expected Jeter to have us as a top 3 horizon program for a couple of years now. There is NO excuse why we shouldn't be at least that competitive. This program should at least be competing to make the NCAA tournament each year, and every year they fail to do so is a complete bust. Now the season is still early, and I know it can be turned around. A little consistency from game to game would go a long way in ensuring we are competitive.
We need to be supportive, but we also need a program worthy of fan support. It goes both ways. We have the quality people and players part down, but no one wants to cheer for a team that gets run out of the gym in the first 10 minutes.
Mitch Hedburg is the man, he deserves better from our panthers.
