The following is text from an email sent to all students by interim chancellor Michael R. Lovell. It's the second email of its kind to be sent out this semester. Note how both the interim chancellor and interim athletic director are doing far, far more than their full-time, contracted predecessors to promote and celebrate the basketball program. It reads:
Dear UWM Students,
Thanks in part to the truly electric atmosphere you helped create at our men’s basketball game on Saturday night, our Milwaukee Panthers nearly upset Marquette. On behalf of our teams, we want to thank you for demonstrating the strength of our teams’ sixth man (and woman): our student fans.
We want to maintain that supportive environment throughout the season, and ask that you and your friends come out to cheer for our teams again this week. There are four opportunities:
*Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. the women play in the Klotsche Center
*Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. the men play in the U.S. Cellular Arena
*Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. the women play in the Klotsche Center (Pounce the Panther Bobblehead Giveaway)
*Saturday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. the men play in the U.S. Cellular Arena (Pounce the Panther Bobblehead Giveaway)
Students get free admission to every game. All you have to do is show your student ID.
Along with our players, we look forward to seeing you this week and throughout the season.
Go Panthers!

I didn't realize until this email that the bobblehead promotion spanned both the men's and women's games.

I really, really enjoy Michael Lovell being our interim chancellor. And not just because he supports athletics (esp. basketball) far more than his predecessor. He's an exceptionally intelligent, kind, and upstanding guy (at least from what I have heard and what I can tell based on things like this, and other interviews in UWM Today, etc.).
I wish we'd just promote him to the full-time gig. He dreams big (a la Koonce) but I think he has the ability to push initiatives through to actually see the light of day- past all the naysayers and negative Nancy's who fear any change in the status quo at UWM.
Does anyone know if there has been any progress on either the Chancellor or AD search? I would think the former hire has to precede the latter, right?

I sent a note to Chancellor Lovell and thanked him for reaching out to the students and for his show of support to the program. I think that this kind of attempt at reaching out to the students is WONDERFUL BEYOND WORDS!!! and thank you Chancellor for seeing this.
Hell this move alone would get my support to make him the full time Chancellor, without the other things that I have heard of what he has been doing for the university.

I agree with this thread.
MAKE THIS MAN OUR FULL TIME CHANCELLOR!
He's got my vote.

I have been very favorably impressed by Mike Lovell in the times I have talked with him. I really don't know if he wants the Chancellor's job, but I'm hard pressed to think we could do better. Coming from the University of Pittsburgh he also has a great appreciation for the positive role athletics can play in improving a University's identity and culture. He raved about Pitt's on-campus arena, the Peterson Events Center, when we talked, and he is very supportive of the idea of Milwaukee having its own right-sized arena on campus. He was even quite familiar with the design of at least one recently opened medium sized arena at a similar institution.
Chancellor Santiago did great things for our university, but I think the best is yet to come.

I agree with this thread. MAKE THIS MAN OUR FULL TIME CHANCELLOR! He's got my vote. While I applaud his initiative to send out an email to the students, let's hope his qualifications go a little bit further than this in saying he's the man for the job.
