UWM to get the ink in paper, they need to beat Marquette and/or Wisconsin.

The sooner some people on here realize that Butler basketball will never be as big as Indiana/Purdue (especially Indiana) in Indianapolis and the rest of the state, the better. -- signed Indiana fan November 9, 2009 if uwm is 2 points away from winning national championship and ranked in the preseason polls the next year then i will be wrong, but until then im sticking with my opinion.

Not to be an asshole, but the sooner some people on here realize that uwm basketball will never be as big as marquette/wisconsin (especially wisconsin) in milwaukee and the rest of the state, the better the only way that the coverage of uwm gets bigger is if they are winning (which they are and should be this year), a bunch of people b*tching on a internet discussion board wont help very much See: University, Butler. University, Gonzaga. Northern Iowa, University of. University, Creighton.

Others are in Podunk, USA and are the only game in town.

And are better than the "traditional powers" in their state. He says we'll never be better than Wisconsin and Marquette. I counter that other states have "mid-majors" leading.

i didnt mean that uwm will never be better then marquette and wisconsin, i meant that the coverage will never be as high as wisconsin and marquette. and I said especially wisconsin because JS is read by a lot of people outside of SE Wisconsin, and no one (other than alumni) care about UWM in other parts of the state. To your examples, I bet Washington State still gets as much coverage as Gonzaga (probably more when the Bennets had that good 3 year stretch). I bet Iowa/Iowa St get as much coverage as UNI, and Nebraska/Creighton....Also I bet hummels injury was much more talked about in Indy then Haywards decision to go to the draft.
just my 2 cents

All this is pointless, we aren't Creighton, Butler, Gonzaga or Northern Iowa. Other than a great 4 year run our program hasn't been that good. Also I think others have been D1 longer which is an advantage IMO.
Yeah we should aspire to be like that but we are putting the cart before the horse here. We got to go back to winning and consistently competing for conference titles. I don't blame the JS for lack of coverage.
That said I think we are on the right track, but respect/coverage/hype isn't always given out, for the most part its earned. That is what we should focus on.
Another side note is all those schools you mentioned have made significant investments in their programs and have great facilities, meanwhile we still don't have a real home. I think their are alot of great things to offer here and once we get the facilities we should be able to earn a place at the table with Butlers, Gonzagas of the world.

Great post, uwmplanner. Let's earn it. I honestly could care less about the JS and their 'UW-Milwaukee Panthers' basketball coverage... Once we start winning consistently, word will get out very quickly, and respect will follow.

I looked to see what is in the paper on Friday, Nov. 12.
Milwaukee Wave preview for the season. ( That's good)
Badgers weekend preview vs. North Dakota ( That's good)
Admirals weekend preview ( That's good )
Hunt's story on the upcoming season is the worst thing I have ever read in my life. It doesn't have one players name in how he previews the season. His Final Four are the top 4 teams in the polls. When has that ever happened? It's on two different pages in the paper. ( Not good, waste of space in the paper)
No preview of Marquette's home opener tonight at the Bradley Center. ( Very Bad )
No preview of UWM's game versus Portland. ( Very bad )

I was disgusted by his comments.

After the bad game last night, page 5 had a color picture of game action. It was a nice picture shot.
