UWGB @ UWM falls on Feb. 5. UWGB would have to be much better than people ever thought possible in order to land that ESPN2 slot. Either that or UWM would have to be an obscenely great basketball team. But here's hoping.

Either that or they'll show Loyola at Detroit, which figures to be a REAL competitive game.

Either way, the Horizon is stepping up by getting more of their games on TV. Well done HL.

I don't like having to fight with over a dozen conferences for air time. I think the League should explore moving to Versus, which wants to break into college athletics more and only airs Mountain West basketball and football currently.
Versus is available nationwide on all cable and dish providers, including Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish Network, and more. Not only is it in the basic lineup for all, it broadcasts in 1080i for every event.
My guess is we'd be able to double or triple our coverage with Versus in the first year.

I have to agree with BigDWSU.
However, Fox Sports and/or Versus is missing a major piece. One of them should step up and create a college only network that can cover watchable sports for colleges. I could see one of those networks showing soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball.
The key being you have to have once dedicated channel, and then go out and find advertisers that want to advertise to college kids across the country.
I know it may not sound like we all want to watch those sports, but there is no one single channel to do that right now.

FoxSports already owns 49% of the BigTen network. They ARE a major partner in showing college football and basketball already.

I'm sure he was thinking more along the lines of the CBS College Sports network, which shows games from a variety of conferences, most of them mid-majors.

Either that or they'll show Loyola at Detroit, which figures to be a REAL competitive game. I think the HLN site wrote it wrong. On Feb. 5, ESPN2 has one HL game. ESPNU has one HL game and the HLN has one HL game. So why is the HLN sasying it's UWGB at UWM or Loyola at Detroit? I thought they are picking out of 5 HL games.

What the hell is the "HLN GOTW?" I know it stands for Horizon League Network Game of the Week, but are they talking about a televised game or a game available only on the internet? If the latter, how is it any different than any other HLN game? If the former, televised where? By whom?
You can say what you want about the coverage the league is getting. From a purely provincial point of view, if the Milwaukee games listed aren't being televised and being distributed broadly, this schedule stinks for us. It's bad enough that the local TV package is limited to TWC and freezes out a huge part of the potential audience in the Milwaukee area and elsewhere in Wisconsin.
Also, does ESPNU/ESPN3 mean that it will be available on both, or could possibly be only on one or the other? Because if it means it might only be on ESPN3, and that happens, again a huge part of the audience will be frozen out.
And while I'm ranting, what idiot programmer doesn't realize that the premiere rivalry in the Horizon League for the last ten years is Milwaukee/Butler? Has any other pair of schools had games that have been so good, or that so often meant so much?

Good, I thought it was just me with HLN GOTW.
HLN Game of the Week, is TV. In Milwaukee, TWC sometimes picks up the game of the week. Last year, Milwaukee played Loyola at the Cell. That's why it was a 1pm start on a Saturday.
ESPNU/ESPN3 means, the game has to be picked. Milwaukee at YSU and GB at CSU, one will end up on ESPNU and the other will go to ESPN3.

I just hate the balkanization of sports carriage. TWC tries to pry fans from satellite (as if that's ever going to happen) so they do an exclusive with UWM or MU. Disney wants to force internet services to pay them too, so they make certain games only available on ESPN3, and ESPN3 available only on certain carriers.
It drives me nuts. I just want to see the games. You already make me watch the advertisements. Isn't that enough?

Nope! Moneymoneymoney.
I just hope these schedules are flexible enough so that when Butler and Milwaukee are battling for first place in the league ESPN has the common sense to put that game on TV.

TV games are set, so ESPN will not pick up BU-Milwaukee.
