Research and planning. What a concept. I'm excited about the Costello/Lovell tandem.

I'd be more than happy with just a football team, but hockey too?! Finally, an administration that understands what sports can actually sustain the athletic department!

Time to hop on the train, people, because we're about to leave the station. Guys with the same ambitious eyes I have for our program are the conductors now. Guys who are a lot smarter and more experienced than I am, but with the same enthusiasm for what our program can be.
Fran often mentions how this program is a "sleeping giant." Time for the giant to wake up.

I wonder if waking the giant involves putting the geographically disadvantaged and facilities-challenged baseball program to bed.

Semi-related ... do you think an attempt should be made to work with Concordia's Kapco Park as the temporary home of Milwaukee baseball until the new baseball stadium is set?

2 out of the last 3 ADs we have had have done wonders for our athletic department. First Bud makes us D1, now Rick is looking for more programs for potential revenue...keep it going, Costello!
Also, out of the potential new programs, hockey might be the easiest to start, with the BC set...

I wonder if waking the giant involves putting the geographically disadvantaged and facilities-challenged baseball program to bed. I think we'd pretty much have to due to Title XI concerns. Plus it would save us the cost of building a new baseball facility whereas a football and/or lacrosse team could use the soccer field we're already gonna have to build and the hockey team could use the Cell (if still have ice-making capabilities) or the BC if not the on-campus arena that hopefully gets built. Also, out of the potential new programs, hockey might be the easiest to start, with the BC set... I would imagine it'd be easier to get 5-7 open Saturdays at Miller Park in the fall (where the football team could play while we build a stadium) than the Bradley Center which already has the Bucks, MU, Admirals, WWE and a full concert schedule. Semi-related ... do you think an attempt should be made to work with Concordia's Kapco Park as the temporary home of Milwaukee baseball until the new baseball stadium is set? No. There's a reason Madison dropped its baseball program... it just doesn't work in cold, snowy Northern states where teams can't even practice outdoors until late April and then have to compete with schools from the South and West that have "baseball weather" all year round.

The Brewers have said it time and time again: Miller Park will NEVER be used for football

I personally have real concerns that pursuing a football program at Milwaukee will turn out to be an example of the perfect being the enemy of the good. But as Jimmy said, the mood is there to try.
We'll see. There is no obvious facility location. Miller Park would almost literally require an act of the Legislature to force the Brewers' hand. I don't see it happening. Any other facility solution has all the location/infrastructure/cost problems we have discussed so many times. And I can pretty much guarantee you those problems are at least three times more difficult than anyone on this board has yet imagined, and ten times more difficult than some (no offense Jimmy) have suggested.
It's not impossible, but it will be a hell of a challenge.

The idea of baseball being shut down to make way for football was brought up before, so I was replying with that in mind. But to answer your question, I don't see how playing in a D3 stadium even further out of the way than we are now really helps anything. Any other facility solution has all the location/infrastructure/cost problems we have discussed so many times. I thought the school already had some locations in mind for a new soccer field to replace Engelmann, right? How much could it really cost to put a 5,000-7,500 seat grandstand on each side and use it for football?

But to answer your question, I don't see how playing in a D3 stadium even further out of the way than we are now really helps anything. Have you seen our D1 "stadium"? Have you seen renderings for this "D3 stadium"? And I had mentioned this as only a temporary replacement until the Village with a new baseball stadium is built. No one goes to games as is ... so distance shouldn't matter in this case.

But the mountain needs to be climbed.
