I actually read the journal on the regular before I started noticing shortcomings like these when dealing with Milwaukee. The coverage we were provided last year was improved, but there comes a time when enough is enough. Either the JS adapts to its readership (I'm assuming no one is going to stop reading the paper if they addressed UWM's athletics correctly) or else it shouldn't be read.

Mike Hunt aside, the Journal-Sentinels's sports reporting is actually top-notch, and really amounts to being the only thing worthwhile about the paper. The Panthers just generally get short-shrifted, although they were on the front page at least once that I can remember last year, when Ricky nailed the buzzer-beater. Enlund has done a good job, for what it's worth, and based on this article it seems he'll be back covering the team this year, at least in part. The problem is that there's not as much interest in UWM as there is in the Packers, the Badgers, Marquette, and the Bucks, so where would UWM go? The winter sports season is crowded. UWM is naturally going to get left out one way or another unless a concerted effort is made to highlight them. And performance usually begets exposure, as we proved during Pearl's tenure.

IMO they should respect our wishes to be referenced as Milwaukee, or not report on us at all.

Except that no reporting would be much, much worse.

Why would an article dated July 22 announcing the team's at-that-time-impending trip to Italy suggest that Tom will be back on the beat in some capacity?
I don't know if he will or won't, though I've heard rumors in the negative, but a midsummer article on an offseason trip doesn't reveal anything.

I really don't get too wound up with the name issue. And quite frankly I don't blame the JS. when we hire a new AD they need to brand our atheltic program. Our website is uwmpanthers.cstv.com/index-main.html so for me its hard to blame other people when our own website has a reference to UWM. For me it starts with the athletic department, if they actually did a decent job with branding us as Milwaukee then I would understand getting pissed of at the JS or any other publication that called us by the wrong name.

Because it's an article in the middle of the summer, long after the season has ended. If the JS were to make a switch with the beat writer, it seems they'd do it in the offseason so that the new writer would be fully acclamated with the team by the time the season starts. Or maybe I'm just applying too much logic for a publication like the Journal Sentinel.

Lack of cooperation by the Milwaukee Urinal hardly qualifies this as a dead issue. If our forefathers thought that way, the US would still be under British Control.
The picture should be of a stubborn ass.

As someone put it before, until our OWN athletic department and university can consistently use Milwaukee and only Milwaukee will we be in any position to call out the JS for referring to us as *gasp* UW-Milwaukee.
But keep calling it the Milwaukee Urinal ... name-calling always demands respect for your initiatives.

Milwaukee Urinal Slantinel. I think it's past a point of wanting to demand any sort of respect. National media co's have already taken the lead. It's just kind of embarrassing that our own city newspaper is going to be the last media outlet (circa. 2057?) to refer to the Milwaukee Panthers as.... the Milwaukee Panthers.
