And predictably Hack snipes in wit da Sarcastic 1-2.... lol. Hack- you know as well as I do that the court would not have been repainted/resurfaced without vocal support- a lot of which came from this community. And the idea of an on-campus arena for the Panthers wouldn't be gracing the pages of the almighty JS, without the moving and shaking of outspoken people like Jimmy and more than a few big UWM donors... many of whom are regulars of this website. It is the off-season- there is nothing to talk about. Battles over where we play and the name conundrum are sure to come up from time to time. I think it is healthy discussion- the right person at the right time reads some of these thoughts and takes action. This is a good thing, people. I am not glorifying the D-Board or our unhealthy fanaticism with Milwaukee Hoops or NCAA hoops in general. But I am saying that I don't think any D-Board posts (however hare-brained and/or redundant) should be stifled. Should we just disable the D-Board from April to November? We are the original Krazies- this, is put simply- what we do. Stop talking about that ... it's all in the past. We are focused on the upcoming season only.

If a new arena is built.....I'm for the whole experience. Something to eat before, and partying afterwards.....and I'm not interested in driving miles to do that. Walking across the street from the new arena to a Panther Pub would be perfect.

Talk about it all you want. I don't care.
I wish there was more effort to get the word out about Panthers basketball for this season. To get people who has not been to a UWM game before and take part of the great ticket deals at the great ole MECCA Arena, like it was once called.

Could you imagine if MECCA, and subsequently the MECCA Arena, still existed? With all the islamphobia going around, I would imagine some out there would have protested to have the named changed ...

That's ridiculous hahaha
In any case, the possibility of pre-game and post-game entertainment in and out of the arena is something those involved in the building of the arena are taking into account as they plan.

Got to also take into account of how many times in the past that regular people living in the apartments just off campus who have complained about rowdy drunk students at night, and how it could be an even bigger can of worms with an on-campus arena...could be a pretty heavy debate.

It'll be difficult to get the amenities around an arena on the KC spot, no doubt. If the Columbia space would include a new arena, it's very possible that space could also include street-level retail/restaurant space. Lord knows the campus could use it; lunch is packed at literally every eatery between locust and edgewood. It would be a fight wherever we put it, but the same goes for the arena, right?

I'm just worried that if Lou doesn't have access to a tapper during the game his "conversations" with the officials will be less entertaining. I don't need beer to be obnoxious. You should know that!

Duerstein and I once had a very fun conversation about what we would do if we ran the university and had eminent domain...best described with two words: "aggressive expansion"
Edit: As it stands, Madison is the only land-grant school in the state. I think supporting a move to switch Milwaukee to land-grant status is a good idea, based on the fact that this school has the second-most cramped campus in the country (as of 2008; we could be more than GSU now).

www4.uwm.edu/give_to_uwm/makegift/online_giving.cfmPlanner, here's the closest thing I could find for a place to donate. Looks like you can donate it to the Athletic Dept. and then there's a place where you can write in that you want it to go toward the arena. FYI I e-mailed somebody that handles the donations and they said the fund has yet to be setup.

Is the $25 per semester? Because if so, that means that the University would get about $1.25 million annually. How much have similar arenas cost recently? For example, UNI's new arena?
