Just to be clear again...Dunne Deal did NOT write that. He found that on JSOnline. It was posted by someone below the story over there.
I can't find it anymore, looks like it was deleted.

That's why the Green Bay game I missed at home this season was the first home game I've missed since the conference tournament semi-finals in 2005.You MISSED the GB game?! And you call yourself a fan.... Jimmy, in the apocryphal words of the old Romans, Illegitimi non carborundum!

Disagree. Kathy has always been accessible to student-athletes and frequently attends SAAC meetings. I do not see how participating in these small events with non-rev athletes is self-serving.

You guys do realize that we have a really serious issue here. I think the DunneDeal post needed to be addressed but I also think it's been posted to death. He didn't write it. The original author is a jerk (whoever he/she is)

Yes, of course, no one is saying it isn't. But some people are reading it the wrong way, and thinking that DunneDeal actually wrote it.

I don't know Jimmy personally but from how he interacts on here, it seems to me that he is probably the most un-selfish die hard Panther fan on the planet. You must have made some big time enemy out there Black Panther MKE!

Read your article Jimmy, Curious what this means: However, despite his almost disinterested demeanor at basketball games, where most of our donors and fans commune, Koonce has many redeeming qualities that the athletic department needs in its figurehead. The games I attended viewing Koonce from afar, he didn't look disinterested at all. He was smiling, talking and shaking hands. I'm curious on your view because I would notice Koonce in the Panther Pit while Jimmy you spent most your time on the other side of the court in the student section, correct? But I didn't get a close up look, so maybe when I didn't see him he was disinterested. So Jimmy, you obviously know something I and maybe others do not know.

I think I'd be right in saying that the Panther Pit, while certainly a place where donors go, is only that way during halftime; during the game, there are only a handful of donors in there.
Season-ticket holders, who may not be donors but absolutely are POTENTIAL donors, maybe do not have access to the Panther Pit. Is that what you need to do to talk to our AD? Donate money?
Were I Athletic Director, the only time I'd spend in the Panther Pit would be during half-time. The rest of the time, you'd find me sitting in a different row every dead ball, talking to all of our fans.
At 5 p.m., you'd find me at Major Goolsby's, talking to fans who show up long before the game. Talking with them, you find out the issues that the average die-hard deals with. They don't represent the majority, but they can shed light on problems or help in other ways around the program.
Pre-game, you'd find me glad handing students and fans who are waiting to get inside, because those fans are so committed that they'll stand in front of a closed door just so they don't miss a second of warm-ups. After all, students are the future alumni and potential donors and season-ticket holders. Making them feel important is pivotal. The same goes for the season-ticket holders who show up over an hour in advance.
Once the doors open, I'm all around the arena, in the concourse and talking to people who are making their way to their seats. Shaking hands, meeting people, learning about them. Take down phone numbers. Take down information such as family's names, work position, what's going on in their life. It's difficult; less difficult if there's an assistant involved, but difficult nonetheless. But the reward is big time. You learn about people, take great interest in their life, and they'll take great interest in our vision. Once, before game time, I go as close to the court as I'm allowed and shake hands with the head coach, showing support.
Game starts, I'm visible. I want people to be able to point to me and say "That's the AD." At timeouts I'm up in the concourse, talking to fans who are getting a beer or in line for a brat. Then, I head back down to the game, taking it in with a different group of fans. Someone mentions they want to sit down and chat? Absolutely, what is your schedule like so I can work around it to make time to see you? What are your interests? Are they primarily men's basketball? What college did you graduate from? L&S? Me too!
At the end of the game, I'm at the doors to the atrium, shaking hands and hopefully high-fiving after a win. If people want to stay and chat, I'm more than willing.
I don't need to see the press conference. The coach and SID can handle that just fine. My job is to high tail it over to Goolsby's, or wherever the post-game party is, and spend the next few hours talking to everyone I can. I want people to feel like their input is important, because guess what - it is. The first thing the athletic director needs to realize is that they are just caretakers of someone else's program. They owe it to the alumni to do the best job possible, and their input is important.
What it all comes down to is communication. Every game should be seen as an opportunity to expand the fan base, get people more interested and involved in Panther Athletics, and get people on track with our vision for the future.
