its not that i'm offended b/c the words to the pledge of allegiance were changed but its just not that good. what happens after this season when those guys are gone? it would have to change every season so we don't keep cheering on guys who are no longer here and changing it every year is tedious. a chant should be timeless and not a continual work in progress.

the framers didn't write the pledge - it was written in the 1890s. it was first recognized by Congress in the 40s and Eisenhower added the controvertial "under God" phrase in the 50s.
I'm not particularly offended by this parody (unlike the disrespectful behavior that sometimes takes place during the playing of the national anthem before the games) but I agree with Pantherholic that it won't do us much good as a trademark cheer.
I'm all for standing and clapping to the school song as Bruce Pearl encouraged us to do, but I sure hope we don't come up with a song where get all mushy like the Badger fans do when they sing Varsity.

Perfect song to play during timeouts, send them back onto the court pumped. the only real modification i'd make is after the final U-doub-le-u-M we all add a "Hey!" to cap it off.

my thoughts.... being a band member, i have never seen the music for the alma mater song, it wasn't on our list. however something varsity-like would be good for instilling school spirit. secondly, if the only words to the fight song that you learn are the final "fight, fight for UWM" it would be great. it would sound cool if everyone sang/yelled/bellowed out this last line. fyi a cool visual effect would be to throw your fists in the air on the words fight and the final hey. i know we've already discussed changing the section name and there were mixed feelings on that issue but... the afformentioned banner would be cool if it stated that we were "the black hole", and of course we'd all have to wear black.

ob1wisc i've only been to one game b/c i'm new to the school this year. coming from whitewater we really didn't give a sh*t about anything but drinking excessively and making fun of the local townspeople/white trash. sorry that someone new isn't a regular around campus.

The band needs to learn how to play the mortal combat song. I know im taking this from other schools. When i was at the tournament i heard that at least 3 times in a one session and it got me so pumped. I almost threw on my warm ups and headed to the court. Anyways, i guess im adressing the band members. but i will hound you all untill someone takes me serious. For starters i would like the email adress or home adress of your band director. No im not going to stalk him. Im just going to use my dad's leaverage (cough donation money) to hopefully get him to play the song.
Dunzz out.

All I know is that when we were in Cleveland all of the other bands loved our band for the fun upbeat songs....I remembered this very much because they were clapping and standing up and dancing...and about the school song....I trully believe that the die hard Panther fans were in Cleveland against Alabama and Boston College....if you remember for anyone that was there...everyone including parents, alumni, and the so called old people were never told to stand up, because all UWM sections stood for the entire game like they were in our student section, but then we got more fans in Chicago that sat on their hands which I think is a problem at times...but honestly school spirtit was at an all-time high after that game against Boston College...seriously every yellow shirt in Cleveland was out drinking that night and we were treated like rock stars...yes the fans as well as the players...dress code...it didnt matter, we were from Milwaukee and they wanted us in their place...sh*t on top of that we had free beers handed to us..what i am saying is that when we get on that national spotlight everyone wants to see us do well including about 13,000 people who rooted for us at the Convo Center in Cleveland...as a student I was never more proud of my institution and athletic team as I was after that BC game and I think everyone in attendance at the game I think felt a little bit of commorodory because we were the select few that were in Cleveland high fiving and standing for two staight games...we were the darlings of the tournament and for those who think change is in order I feel your could not be more wrong..things are fine now, but us as students for next season need to learn the words we need to clap in unison so others at the Cell see this and join in.....Its a pretty easy concept and it can be done with 2,500 students singing and clapping to the fight song in unison..it would be a fun site to see and hear...and I for one can not wait for it when it does happen...

All I can say is I was never as proud to be associated with the Panthers and be in the band as I was when I was in cleveland. Our band director was offered, on the spot, the position of director of bands for a major D1 program because they liked our band so much. It was a great thing. (Our band director turned them down, of course, because he is a panther for life.)
