“What set Loyola apart from other perspective member institutions was their strong leadership, their financial investment and increasing athletic staff and increasing their budget.” - Doug Elgin
That is the beginning and end of it right there.

Yes, but our chancellor runs The Hill with the men's and women's basketball teams!

Today, Loyola can end 33 years of wandering in the wilderness. Will they do it, or will they choke?

Loyola is going to the dance. It's almost like they are a different team than they were in their loss in Milwaukee.
LU's advancement to the MVC, and now to the top of the MVC, is nothing less than an indictment of our university and athletics administrations. While Loyola was thinking big, our incompetent administrators were thinking small -- if they were thinking at all. And goodness does it show in the results. Loyola will go into the tournament as a dangerous team that high majors won't want to be matched against. Remember that feeling?

If we get to the dance, it will be as a first four punching bag. That's just the truth of it. Loyola is in a different galaxy than we are now. They have an RPI of 26. Probably an 8 seed at worst. They are playing in an immensely better league and filling their arena with excited fans.
The shame of it is that it wasn't this way just a few years ago. Jeter was 12-7 against LU in the Horizon. But LU's administrators had competence and vision. Ours had ineptitude and myopia.

It also probably helped the Valley wanted a private school in the Chicago market, regardless of Geiger's actions.

And if NKU goes to the Valley this off-season I'm sure we will hear that they wanted a public school in the Ohio valley area -- not that NKU has executed an athletics plan brilliantly over the last ten years.
Chance favors the prepared. Our recent and current administrators clearly see us as a hyphenated low-major that must be content with whatever D1 scraps blow our way by the winds of the day.

Our administration seems content with us basically being Cleveland State. No vision or master plan, playing in front of crickets in an empty barn.

The first comment in a long time where I completely agree with Fran. The problems with this university and athletic department have been there ever since Nancy Zimpher left.

The shame of it is that it wasn't this way just a few years ago. Jeter was 12-7 against LU in the Horizon. Better yet, Jeter's two predecessors and two successors were a combined 12-3 against LU (11-2 in the Horizon).

So we are 24-10 against Loyola since the turn of the century -- and yet "somehow" they lapped us as a program.
What a testament to our administration.

I wish that the Ramblermaniacs still frequented this board because I'd like to send out a heartfelt congratulations for their success in willing an administration to meaningful change. That was MARVELOUS!!!
