Paul. totally agree Tony has been great and made a huge leap. Boy, in watching the two out on the court the eye test goes to Averkamp. He is a beast, strong which Tony is not and looks quicker.. Tony has nice outside shot and is active but in looking at Averkamp as a sophomore and his strength, aggressiveness, toughness and combindation of inside and outside moves I would take him over Tony although love both players. If Tony cools off from the outside his overall value and play are greatly diminished. Think Averkamp already has a better all around game.

I'd take Tony and Kelm ahead of Averkamp 7 days a week and 3 times on Sunday. Would I have taken him on the panthers? YES, but as a Haggarty type roll player who gets a couple of minutes and gives size for the starters to practice against. Raise the team GPA and graduation rate ect., but to play him over Tony and Kelm? Absolute Horse Hockey! This team isn't losing because it has a lack of talent. I've seen flashes from Kelm that says hes a player, and Tony's production and "eye test" speaks for itself. As for Tony taking all 3's, that sounds to me like more of a coaching decision rather than a player decision. We do lead the league by far in 3 pointers attempted. Averkamp is not bad, but I wouldn't take him over Kelm. Kelm deserves a lot more playing time, time he would definitely be getting on Loyola. Taking Averkamp over Tony, our teams MVP, is absurd and borderline bull jive. IMO

I'll summarize my feelings on the subject by saying that I'd prefer to have all members of the Wisconsin Swing AAU team as Panthers: Kyle Kelm, Chip Rank, Ben Averkamp, Evan Richard and Josh Gasser. If only we could have gotten them to commit as a package deal.

Agree to disagree.... wow...just watching Kelm vs Averkamp I do not see Kyle yet having any type of inside moves or game and is a lot weaker physically than Averkamp. I think Kyle has upside and very glad we have him but I think Averkamp has even more upside. Kyle has trouble even finishing an open dunk. Averkamp powers his way to the hoop with jump hooks, dunks and pull up jumpers. I like Tony a lot and agree he has been our most consistent all around player and most improved but he has his limitations. Watching Tony and Averkamp side by side in that game do not know how the eye test could favor Tony frankly.

One last comment.. talk about balderdash... comparing Averkamp to Haggarty and saying he is at Haggarty's class or level is the true balderdash... wow

I think it's important to note that this is an apples-and-oranges comparison, as Tony is a 3/4 man and Ben is a 5 with some power-forward skills. In reality, Ben would be playing alongside Tony on the frontline or vice versa if they were on the same team.
Some of the problems of last year, IMO, stemmed from having Tony try to do too much on the interior. Look at how much more comfortable he is behind the arc (43.5% on 81 3-point tries).

That is a very good point. Averkamp plays like a 5 vs Tony's versatility as 3/4, Would love to have them both side by side. Did notice Averkamp drill some nice outside jumpers though too. I guess kind of a meaningless discussion as they are both excellent players . I was so impressed with watching Averkampas only a sophomore but like you say it is not a totally valid comparison . Not diminishing Tony at all although the more I watch Kyle I see he has a pretty long way to go although very glad we have him and he will be a key player for us in the years ahead. Tony is doing a GREAT job but I was just so impressed with Averkamp and his progress as only a sophomore. He was so strong and aggressive against us which to me stood out over Tony and Kyle who are excellent players but I would not categorize either one as strong or aggressive frankly. They look like guys who basically want to sit on the perimeter and shoot like guards.

I believe Loyola made a great hire with Coach Moser. I would be surprised if he doesn't competitive very quickly. I knew Coach Moser during his time in Milwaukee and he is a tireless worker and great recruiter. He also will continue Loyola's trend of recruiting into Milwaukee/Wisconsin (see Kwamain Mitchell and Jake Barnett at SLU).

I don't know too much about Moser, it sounds like a good hire. Time will tell!

They must be paying very well. He made over $400,000 per year as the #2 guy at St. Louis.

I like how that article conveniently doesn't mention his record at ISU.

I like how that article conveniently doesn't mention his record at ISU. ISU had some good teams with his recruits (including some Chicago kids) after Moser left. I think he will be successful at Loyola.

With the revelation that the Ramblers will visit Illinois and host Chicago State in the coming season, Loyola's 2011-12 non-conference schedule is now apparently complete. Here it is:
vs. 339 Chicago State vs. 123 Creighton vs. 234 DePaul vs. 253 Fordham vs. BracketBuster at 181 Canisius at 314 Eastern Illinois at 48 Illinois at 23 Kansas State at 317 Northern Illinois at 93 St. Peter's
