That was incredibly embarrassing... for those who chanted that, think before making the rest of us look incompetent.
RESPECT EVERYONE! it's the only way we'll gain respect...

Thank You! And what's up with the "Hey...YOU SUCK!"? Just plain tired and childish if you ask me. I honestly think I'm in a drunken high school student section sometimes, and it's sad. -Jason

"shoot him like a horse" = I think this cheer was warranted when we all see the player take an obvious flop. and then miraculously he gets up and continues to play.
"hey....you suck" = I think this is stupid as well, so I don't participate. but remember that some of us upperclassmen and graduates continue to get older, and the freshmen will always be young and immature. college basketball fans. its the way it goes.

I agree with the "hey - you suck" chant. It is more of a high school type chant, which is what I have heard people say about the chant when it is happening. Remember freshman are just out of high school. I have also heard that about the 'sex/orgy' chants. Here is the thing... people say our student section just copies UW or Duke (krazies). Whatever, a bunch of schools just copy from each other. If the student section wants to set itself apart, the 'Cell Block', not 'klotche krazies' need to get a big group of people together (including some band members), and come up with easy, but creative chants that apply to the Panthers/UWM/Black/Gold. Or something with cats/claws/ I don't know just putting things out there.
The key is a large core group that can start these new chants. Bring some printouts of them to EVERY game so that the new people can start to get them in their heads.

i have had a problem this season with some of the old standard chants....most people either have forgotten them, or just dont care. Probably not one here, but the new freshman dont even clap during our school song, or sing the "Fight, Fight, for UW-M" part...what do they think that is just some random song the band plays over and over again. i'll just list them rather than saying how much they all piss me off
1. School Song - Previously mentioned clap for gods sake 2. for my HS is was go big blue, but here its "Go Panth-ers" 3. Hey Song. its "Hey, GO PANTHERS" not "Hey, YOU SUCK"
there are probably more but i dont wanna think about them. oh and our cheerleaders do some of the stupidest chants ever. and they laugh when we count up (starting at 3) when they do the shoot for 2 chant. i had alot of fun yelling at williams last night, i think we had him a little rattled. we really just cant expect elaborate cheers if people cant get these, the simplest of cheers, correct.....

A note on the school song... This is the only university, that I have been to a basketball game at, where people don't stand and clap for the school fight song. Not just students. Everyone stands and claps.
It's not a bad fight song. Learn the words. Stand and clap, this shows support for the university.
Sorry, this message came off really hard sounding. Emotions are hard to express via text. I just get frustrated sometimes.

On the Chancellor's Welcome page, there was a link to the SOUNDS OF UWM. Since the Chancellor is most kind to share the sounds, I pass them along for your retrieval.

I can vouch from personal experience that you cannot just invent a NEW student section over night. The coming together of a group has been done, ie Student Black and Gold Club and The Pantherpride Committee. Coming up with easy, but creative chants isn't as easy as it sounds, and even if done, getting an entire section to learn it is near impossible. This is why so many cheers are similar throughout schools ( and H.S. for that matter), it's just what people already know!
I also don't think it is so much important for our section to set itself apart from other schools, but more importantly to become unified. The "Hey...You Suck!" may not be the best choice of chant, but on the bright side, people did it together. As for "Shoot him like a horse", I don't think the player is scarred for life. I think we're just getting a little too sensitive here. It's bad enough hearing the oversensitive FCC issues in the news every week.
The fact of the matter is that typing about how to change the student section doesn't really get sh#$ done unless you take a proactive role and do it yourself!

Good point. My post was not to ask for a new section. I just enjoy that there is one. Back in 98, there was nothing. If you could get a student to wear gold then, that was impressive. Again, I have heard grumblings of 'high schoolish' and 'copying' from people. I think with the bright minds that UWM has, the core of the SBGC and PPC could find let's say one new creative chant per season.
X= clap/stomp 1= Pan or De 2= thers or fence [----3---] ____ | | | | | X X X 1 2
Granted this is NOT a new thing. But, I don't think I have heard this one from the Krazies. I don't know. Not thinking clearly yet this morning.
Again, I love our student section.

I have to echo Fenske on this one. I mean really, I've been to numerous arenas across the US, including every one in the Horizon except Youngstown and they all know and support the school fight song. This needs to be taught at orientation or something. Homecourt advantage means a lot and the student section is a huge part of that advantage. Stay classy, use the U-W-M and De Fense chants.
Also I'm jealous of the student section, I'm sitting in a snow storm in Muncie Indiana watching Iowa vs. Illinois in OT and listening to the CSU radio guy butcher Tigert and Pancratz's names.
GO PANTHERS

TopTekeUWM, I wholeheartedly agree the fight song needs to be learned and a tradition started; my office on campus has made tons of efforts to try teaching the fight song at Orientation to no avail. Students, in particular guys, are busy being too cool at Orientation to show any school spirit. We've tried a number of different things but everyone's too busy being insecure about starting college and posturing hoping to get a piece of the cutie next to them (except the engineering students....sorry, never see any girls at Orientation in their groups!) to actually jump on board. Ironically I'm enrolled in a grad class where we've just been talking at length about this "generation," the millenials. One of the things I took away from a class last night was that, generally speaking, this age group typically wants what you're shooting for, but they aren't willing to put the effort in to create it themselves. Many reasons why, but it seems to be a very difficult hump to overcome. Like you, I want to fill the seats to the rim. If any of you are from that younger set, please let us know what works to reach you!!! Believe me, the university is trying its guts out to find a way! Ok, now back to the regularly scheduled programming...........

It's a good point uwmfan, it's difficult for first semester freshman to step outside the box of looking cool to everyone else. I suppose it's at least fortunate that we actually have a "Freshman Week Orientation" now, as it didn't exist my freshman year.
At least back at the KC, this was much the reason why you'd always see people showing up all done up to look good. They were there to look cool and pick up girls/guys.
I think this issue will always hang around, but the greater the buzz about the team, the more it will be broken.

UWMFan,
I'm also in graduate school in the student affairs administration in higher education program at Ball State. I think the key to getting the younger crowd into the fight song is put it in video game form. If that doesn't work, we can IM them!
It also doesn't help that athletics has been moved out of student affairs.
We'll just have to stick together and keep on pushing!
Go Panthers!

I like the "You can't stop him" chant after great McCants plays.
How about a "Boo's your daddy!" chant for great Boo Davis plays?
