Kingsbury and all the other faithful posters on this site, there is whining on the GB site that we have been negatively recruiting the GB program and that we will soon be crying about Tillema's signing with GB. I'm sorry, I've been on the GB campus and frankly it's not much to look at. As for the supposed superiority in coverage, the J-S has been making some gains (I've now seen Garry Howard at two functions) and people are beginning to take note of the program's growth. Frankly, Green Bay remains the least of our worries.

By the way, the premise that Tillema is a better college prospect than Landry and Matthews is, in the words of Mike Tyson, absolutely ludicrous.

Interesting read on UWGBphoenix.com "A case in point -- with UWM’s well earned success the Panther coaches had become complacent regarding state high school talent. While former Panther coach Bo Ryan worked the state hard, his replacement appears to have taken state prep recruiting for granted. Bruce Pearl will not do that again. He's too experienced of a coach. The Panthers clearly tried to play catch up with some key recruits and things resembled the worst aspects of 2004 Presidential campaign. Despite the rumors you may have heard Kowalcyzk has never abandoned a kitten on the highway nor asked the United Nations for permission to go to war. " www.uwgbphoenix.com/1004Recruiting.htmSince, UWM did not sign a Wisconsin recruit, UWM is taking the State prep recruiting for granted. The reason Bo worked Wisconsin so hard, is because those were the only players that would come and play for him at the time. One last thing, if Bruce goes out of state and finds an Ed McCants each signing period, I will be content if we never sign a Wisconsin player again.

I totally agree Kingsbury. It is two different coaches who have different strategies. Bo was soo well known in state, he recruited to his strengths. I think Bruce has less connections (not saying any, but less than Bo) around the state.
Even look back at Coach Cobb. He pulled players from Las Vegas, Lima Ohio (BEAN CITY as Clay T. would say), and IL.
Typical of the GB/MU axis of evillll. ;D

Amen, Hack. To take the argument to the extreme, if we could consistently mine the fertile recruiting grounds of Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Florida and California, UWGB can have all the Randy Berrys and Ryan Tillemas they can get their grubby paws on.

I do not see the reason for only trying to recruit inside WI.
Yes it is easier to grab recruits from your inner state but when you live in WI its harder. If high school player is really that good, and will be good in college, its most likly Madison will get the first stab at them. As good as Milwaukee is for hoops, night life, and other stuff, we just can not compete with Madison. Most kids in high school believe that Madison is the best when it comes to everything. That goes for every state, but its especially true in the WI. Additionally, if you can get someone to come from father away, thats just an indication of how good we are. Not bad.
I agree with everyone else. You can get good basketball palyers out side of WI. In fact, coaches all over the USA do it all the time.
I do not know why GB is writting against UWM, but i bet they wont be making any remarks when every player from out of state makes those kids from WI look like a fool.
Thats all i have to say.
