By Tom Markowski / The Detroit News
DETROIT — The day belonged to the late Dave DeBusschere, the biggest name in Titans history. But the game centered on the tallest current Titan, Ryvon Covile.
Covile, a 6-foot-9 sophomore who, like DeBusschere, was born in Detroit, had a career-high 19 points in a a 54-48 victory over Butler on Saturday before a national-television audience and a homecoming crowd of 5,145 at Calihan Hall.
UDM (13-10, 7-6 Horizon League) has won four straight.
It was an uphill fight for the Titans. They trailed 13-2 and didn’t take their first lead until Elijah Warren’s three-pointer made it 40-39 with 9:18 remaining. The Titans never lost the lead, but twice Butler cut its deficit to two in the final three minutes.
