POY is already AJ Graves. The championship is already Butler. That was already decided whether we are good or bad. I won't disagree with the second statement. I will disagree with the first. Torre is already putting up big numbers and I think the best is yet to come. I haven't looked at other teams in depth yet, but I'd guess that there are others. I'll bet you a Stanley Nickel that Torre wins it over Graves.

My expecations for Gentry were sky high coming into last year (Mr Basketball for Iowa) and he never lived up to them. They were very high for him this year again based upon how he finished last year and hearing he was a front runner for a starting spot told me he had continued to progress. He has done nothing to show me he should start at this point (and I didnt even see tonights game). If his job is to shot the 3 and slash to the basket and he cant hit the 3 then give me Roberts who can atleast get to the hoop and make things happen and gives us a strong defensive presence and a strong ball handler. That's the fundamental difference. What we lost in Avo we can gain in Deonte. He can slash the bucket, get easy layups, dish it off to Paige/Tim/Torre and play HARD defense. Gentry has the potential to make 3 balls (which he hasn't anyway) but honestly has a rough go at doing any of the aforementioned qualities of Roberts.

The only way Torre gets it, is if Milwaukee wins the Horizon.
If it's Butler, then Graves gets it in his Senior year. He's been one of the better players in the league since he was a Freshman. They will give it to him, even if Torre's stats look better.
EDIT: And I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that even if Torre's stats are better. However, Torre should almost be a lock for Newcomer of the Year.

Here's Manoyan's take on the game. As for the Johnson-Graves argument, that should be quite a battle. Keep in mind that Torre just dominated a game in which he shot less than 33 percent from the field (6 of 19, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks). I do have great respect for A.J. www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=686449

"He came over to me at halftime and said, 'If you have an open shot, take it. If you don't, I'm going to take you out,' "
Great quote.

And if he does it in conference play, I don't care where UWM finishes in conference play. Real big men change the Horizon. Torre is a presence with those blocks. I'm not saying its a sure thing or even a 50/50 race. I'm just saying it isn't over.

i agree, his 4 blocks were huge, and i dont even know how many other's that he altered in the paint. not to mention the goal tending that he had that just looked nasty.

Hey, Hanson had 7 assists! That's what you want from your point guard! Way to go Al!

The game is being re-broadcasted at 10am next Tuesday (11/20) on TWS in case anyone forgot to DVR it.
Also - Did anyone else find it weird Carroll participated in the shootaround/lay-up lines and didn't wear the traditional full windbreaker outfit our redshirts usually wear? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

The first half was bad, but I agree with Sutton who said we were watching the team gel in the second half. Yes we have much more talent than last year, but they still have to learn how to play together. The second half of this game showed big time progress on that front.
The team played awesome after the break (and had to). Hopefully that will continue. Kudos to RJ for doing a masterful coaching job. Hopefully that will continue too.

I wasn't as upset about a lot of the 3-pointers shot b/c a lot of them were legit shots. Anyone else on any team would've tried those as well. Had they just been chucking shots for no particular reason, then I would've been more upset. Granted I'm watching the game after knowing the end result so that might play a factor too.

it seemed like we were settling for 3 pointers on occassion. i would have liked to see us pound it inside a little more. Johnson & Flowers should be getting touches down low on basically every possesion IMO

I thought Ricky played a very good game, and that's not including the three pointers. It seemed every time he went left he beat his man which set him up for a good shot or pass opportunity. if Ricky can continue to do that and get passes to the bigs in the middle this could be a problem for opposing defenses.
If Torre can gain some control on offenses and averages a double double he will be the POY. Some of his shots seemed out of control and in many of those he his falling awkwardly away from the basket. When he shoots moving to the basket he seems less out of control. His presense in the middle his great.
I thought Darren Sutton overplayed it a little, but this team grew up a lot last night. Also, I think the announcers did a great job, Darren Sutton appears to be very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the team.
