I'm flattered, but I think my column came out around the same as the message board started talking about their lack of minutes.
I don't know if the Post is read by many people in the athletic department, but starting this semester we're going to start dropping a stack of them in the AD offices.

Hey Lemke-
I never thought I'd say this, but that was a hell of a nice job in that article. Keep fighting the good fight.

Somebody has to explain the Gentry and Thorton love to me? Great article , totally ignored the fact that another Freshman actually worked his way into solid minutes. Why no love for Kaylan Anderson? Anderson can actually put the ball on the deck and make a basketball move toward the hoop. That is more than I can say for Thorton or Gentry, who seem contempt on free lancing around the 3 point arch.

I tend to agree with Kingsbury. While Thornton and Gentry may be good guys and have great basketball skills. It takes more than good skills to get playing time. There is something that they are not doing OR not doing as well as others, otherwise they'd see those minutes going to other guys. Also...as a graduate of the Journalism/Mass Communication department at UWM...I was surprised to see RJ being referenced as "Jeter" upon first mention in Lemke's article. Usually it would be "Rob Jeter" or "Head Coach Rob Jeter" and then "Jeter" on subsequent mentions.

wow, what a stupid argument. i mean really. he has one good game and he should get more minutes and is suddenly the team's best shooter?! damn, you really are priming yourself for a J/S gig - weak argument w/ minimal slanted facts.

"That is more than I can say for Thorton or Gentry, who seem contempt on free lancing around the 3 point arch." Contempt? Sounds like a freudian slip, Kingsbury. It's apparent that neither Roman nor Ryan have the strength yet to challenge inside. Ryan also needs to increase his foot speed. A good off-season of weight work and body development will help immensely. This team has had a terrible time shooting this year so we want to grow and nurture both these guys because their shooting skills will make them very valuable players for the next three.

Anderson can actually put the ball on the deck and make a basketball move toward the hoop. That is more than I can say for Thorton or Gentry, who seem contempt on free lancing around the 3 point arch. Kingsbury: That article came out in early December. Kaylan Anderson was sitting on the end of the bench in early December as well. I didn't add him in that article because I believe he's in a different class than Thornton or Gentry. I'm not saying he is worse or better than they are, I just think he's a different player. For instance, look at the numbers: in about 4 minutes more per game than the other two, Kaylan is shooting a lower percentage than either; however, he also has more assists, rebounds, and actually has an assist-to-turnover ratio. Just different. Brian: I won't defend what I did, it was an obvious mistake that I didn't catch. Thanks for the heads up. Holic: When I said best shooter, I was talking in terms of long range. Although his 3-point average is not best on the team, ask any player or coach who should take a game winning shot. I'm sure Thornton will be the name that comes up most. By the way: Thornton is 90% from the free throw line, and he didn't miss until the Wisconsin game from there. I believe his field goal percentage will rise with more valuable playing time. To be honest, I wasn't completely happy that my article surfaced here; most guys here are so demanding and unfair that perfection is merely adequate. To them, anything less deserves undying scrutiny. So, I apologize for only being a sophomore in college.

when i think of the UWM Post, "perfection" isn't a word i even consider. the only part i look forward to are John Jay's photos as he does a great job. its not that i'm expecting something good (especially from the Post) but i guess i do expect a level of common sense to be used instead just any space-filling crap one can think of.

Wow Holic. Get over yourself, it's a campus newspaper, not the New York Times.

Wow, you're always telling people to get over themselves, aren't you? Kinda reminds me of a similar post someone here once made... "Talk about a reason the fan base is leaving..." I can't seem to remember who it was that said that, though... Can you help me out with this one, bball30?

I realize that. My point here is about the way you did it... You don't like someone's "brashness", so you throw it right back at them ten-fold? Not the best way to make this a "happy place". And that is what you want, right?

The article was good. It offers a different viewpoint. Jimmy is learning that every word in an article is important. Saying Ryan is a the best "long range" shooter for example instead of saying "the best shooter."
But it was a good article and the kind of analysis that the Post should be providing.
