Just curious, would you rather have the Panthers finish over .500 in the Horizon, and lose to Butler this Sat.
Or, finish under .500 in conf., but beat Butler this Sat.
I guess I'll say over .500, but a win Sat. would be so sweet

I will take a win on Saturday over finishing .500 in the conference. Butler in my mind is our biggest rival and nothing is sweeter than betting your biggest rival when you are having a down year.
Plus it would be some nice revenge for that home cooking that took place last year at Hinkle.

Go Bulldogs. I hate to say it, but if we beat them on Saturday, there is no chance the HL will get in two teams. Having a conference school in the top 20 does a lot for the future of the HL and our program. If we win, we really hurt the conference.
Let's hope the dogs stay top 25, and that Loyola beats them in the conference tournament!

I agree with ghost of freak. Although, I don't know if it would be better for recruiting saying that we finished with a plus-.500 record in conference, or if it would be better if the coaching staff could tout a win over top-15 Butler. Overall though, I'd say getting two teams from the Horizon in the NCAA tournament would help our cause more than either one of those.

I dont get this love fest with the rest of the conference doing well. Sure its nice to have a strong conference, but our program winning should come first and foremost. All this complaining on this board about poor student and fan turnout this year I would think we would be praying for a win against Butler to create the buzz about the program again.
Talk about just giving up on the year. Not even out of December yet and we are rooting against our team in hoops that maybe the conference can get two bids.

I guess I'm quite the homer, but I can't believe a UWM fan would want our team to lose (this Saturday, or anyday). I understand your point of view, but this is not a 'lost season'. These kids need to win the big games, continue to develop, and come out in 2007 hungry for an HL title and another NCCA run. I like to see Butler in the top 25 just as much as the next HL fan, but when it comes down to it- UWM, the PANTHERS are our team; and they will play their hearts out Sat. in an effort to upset the 'big bad' Bulldogs. I will be there, and I will be proudly cheering for UWM, not, for the Horizon League.

To quote one Herm Edwards, "You play to win the game!"

Although, it helps the league when the other teams win, I'd much rather see us dominate a weak league year in and year out. Then perhaps, another noteworthy conference would extend an invitation to us to join. And of course the other obvious benefits of winning...tourney berths, recruiting, fan base, profit, etc

Come on Freak, show up on Saturday and start earning your nickname. GO PANTHERS... We are not playing for the #1 draft choice! I'll take as many wins as we can get.
