Just to let you guys know how you did.. the beginning of the game was insane. None of our shots were falling, while you guys' couldn't miss one. I'm talking threes that would hit the rim, bounce vertically, and still fall in. The guards were lighting it up, but I don't know whether to say it was through skill or not. Our offense involves a lot of dribble penetration and motion, but your guards were quick enough to keep up with them for the most part. Eventually we ended up going small (hence the rebound difference) to be able to keep up.
I don't know if UW-M is ALWAYS physical and aggressive, but there was a lot of shoving going on towards the end of the first half and in the second half from you guys. I don't remember the number, but one of your guards (I WANT to say 23, but I honestly can't remember) got in the face of Deven Mitchell with some yelling and shoving. They had to be separated by the ref and other players. Blake Ahearn was also shoved out of bounds. The refs let a lot of the fouls by UW-M go and called pretty light fouls on MSU quite often, and yet UW-M STILL had a lot of guys with fouls, if that's indication of how physical they were being. Maybe it was part of the game plan to disrupt our offense though.
From what I saw, you guys are going to be incredibly good in about 2 years' time. There was a lot of athleticism, but they made some freshman mistakes and haven't totally developed a cohesive offense yet. I don't think I missed anything, but it was disappointing that a win for us had to be marred by some words (and shoves) being thrown on the court.

Guys...the kids are OK.
I can't wait til next year if they're getting chippy with a far superior team right now.
Year Three of the Marquette deal will be GREAT

From what I saw, you guys are going to be incredibly good in about 2 years' time. Now consider we're adding a Big 12 starter who averaged 10+ ppg last year, and two recruits who are far-and-away the 2nd and 3rd best players on the #3 high school team [glow=red,2,300]in the country![/glow] That=good NEXT year. Without adding any of them, this current team would still be very good in two years. With those three, and three more GREAT recruits in Deonte Roberts, Anthony Hill, and Joe Allen... WOW! Look out, Marquette and Bucky, let alone the HL!

You guys will take some lumps this year, but it will pay off down the road. Your guards are very talented and athletic. Jeter needs to find a back to the basket post player to compliment them and you guys will be back to your NCAA tournament ways in no time.
Good luck the rest of the way.

Ever since RT scores 13pts in 10 minutes he has basically been benched. I know that defensively he is limited, but our opponents are shooting a very good percentage every game now. Not sure how much more he would hurt our defense. He deserves to play at least 10 minutes a game. He would give our team an offensive threat that our opponets would have to respect and it would open lanes to the basket for our guards. I know he is discouraged and I am hoping he hangs in there.

I noticed the RT situation as well. Is there any logical reason? If Franklin, who did not start in name but played 26 minutes, had played 10 minutes less so that RT could play, would that have been bad for the team? I think not. I wonder why Jeter seems to have shut him off when he has promise, and needs minutes to work out his game.

And it couldn't have been THAT bad...no Technical's were given.

Thanks for giving us a quick recap of the game. Good luck to MSU this year, you guys will do some damage, that's for sure.

"D" Yeah, but as "pfan" was saying, the defense is already bad with teams shooting a good percentage against us, so having RT in there won't hurt us too much.

Yeah, but as "pfan" was saying, the defense is already bad with teams shooting a good percentage against us, so having RT in there won't hurt us too much. Our defense now is hit and miss........not the best, but not horrible. For the most part, they try to lock down and play fairly hard. In most of our games to date, we have had lapses and let the other team go on runs. Also, some of the teams have flat out shot the ball well (not a direct correlation to poor "d"). If you watch RT play "d", his player rarely shoots over him - they just drive right around him. Would you rather have someone shooting a jump shot over (insert guard's name here) or going staight to the rack and either a). getting a layup or b). just dishing to someone else for a layup. If you can't defend off the bouce at all, you REALLY put a lot of stress on everyone else and it causes a ton of problems. Further, while I think RT is a very good shooter (current stats notwithstanding), he does not have the ability to create his own shot or do much off the dribble (yet).....which makes him a pretty easy player to guard. It won't take long (probably has happened already) for teams to simply put a defender on him and tell him to not let RT catch the ball (no help D). until others on the team start to step up on the offensive end and create issues for opposing teams (i.e. a pressence down low, someone who can continually get in the lane and kick, others knocking down shots), it is going to be increasingly difficult for RT to score. Again, I think RT will develop into a solid player, but at this point he is far from being a feature type of player - he needs to rely on others to get his points and until others pick it up, he is going to have a tough (inconsistent) go of it.

I have to agree with 30, until his D improves RT will see limited minutes. There is no where were you could hide him on the defensive end since he does not have the strength or lateral quickness to guard the 3 at this point in his young career. A summer in the the weight room will do this kid wonders. On a side note kudos to Missouri State for trotting out Tim Hutchinson, I'm not sure who is worse him or Phil Bova .

Swiggett is having a phenomenal first year. 16 points against one of the top back courts in the MVC (Blake is pre-season first team). An amazing game for a freshman!
It will be interesting to see how he matches up against Butler's veteran guards.
