Butler beats up on Tennessee, and is now ranked 22nd? UWM is in trouble this year, but this we knew.
How have others faired recently?

They've beat Indiana and Notre Dame as well. Heckuva start for Butler.

Loyola is 4-1 with the only loss being a 12 point defeat at the hands of #7 Ohio State in Columbus. Based on the current results to date, I would say that the race will be between Butler and Loyola. The middle of the pack will be a jumbled mess. UWM at or near the bottom is probably on target at this point in time. Again, I'm saying at this point in time.

Butler beats Gonzaga! Crap! UWM is in trouble. But at least it boosts the Horizon League.

how is Butler's recent success any indication we're in trouble?

It's great that Butler is good this year. It only helps the conference. Besides, this is clearly a rebuilding year for UWM anyway.

It's an indication as they are playing extremely well, and have undoubtedly gained a lot of confidence. UWM is playing the opposite of that.

Yes, I'm thinking that confidence may be part of the problem. It could be why we see some hestiancy on some shots and why some easy buckets are getting missed.

I think the lack of a swagger is the problem...the play with no attitude

Leauge play this year is certainly going to be interesting. All teams in the leauge are showing signs of getting better in some respects. Butler is going to be a monster this year...yikes, but hey good for them and I agree that it helps the leauge.

I doubt Butler will be a monster in conference. We still have a ways to go until the meat of the conference season, and unlike non-conference foes this league knows exactly how Butler plays. They are basically last years team without a great post player like Polk. I firmly believe they will still finish 1st or 2nd, but are hardly unbeatable. I'm certain their own fans would admit that they will face tough tests in conference.
I personally feel their wins over Gonzaga and Kent State are the most impressive. Notre Dame isn't even close to an NCAA Tourny team, and both Indiana and Tennessee look to be bubble teams only due to their conference affiliation. I was thoroughly unimpressed with both Pearl's and Sampson's teams given the recruiting talent that they bring in.
