I agree with Fran and got to believe that the ship will be righted and this team will improve. We played against two well coached experienced teams. Most of our players are new and haven't played together so we'll have some growing pains. I still believe Jeter will have these guys ready to play during our conference stretch. It's not how you start but how you finish. Let's give these guys a break.

Fran's right about Mauldin. when they actually kept him in, he didn't do too bad. unlike Paige, Sam actually has the balls to be aggressive on defense and helped make his opponent take some bad shots. his knee is fine, he shows that by hauling ass down court each time. what he lacks is comfort and experience which will only come w/ PT. what i love are the morons in the student section who chide Sam for any mistakes he'll make but Paige's putrid 3 pt. shooting, Massiah's inept defense, etc are perfectly acceptable. yeah he missed some easy shots but so did skinner, avo, paige, ricky, and others but yet i didn't hear "nice shot dumbass" for them.
Avo needs to stop shooting 3s, that's just not his game. a big problem w/ him is that he's trying to create fouls but isn't getting them which can become a problem. his offense isn't as bad as last year but its definitely still a work in progress.
Our offense will get better when we can finish shots. we've gotten a good amt. of high % shots but we just can't get them to fall. don't know if that'll plague us all season but I'm optimistic that they'll eventually start falling our way.
I always thought Mike Davis acted like he did on the sidelines b/c he was unhappy at Indiana, now it just appears he's a HUGE crybaby. almost everytime a foul is called he acts like its a crime against humanity, the world keeps screwing him and he thinks he should just end it all. one of these days i wouldn't be surprised to see him get a container of phenobarbitals and a bottle of vodka and just end it all right then and there. i regret not starting a "Quit your b****ing" chant.

Actually, Davis is no worse on the sideline than Dick Bennett was, as far as grimaces and groans. I thought Davis was a better coach at IU than the fans there gave him credit for. I think he'll do well at UAB.

\ i regret not starting a "Quit your b****ing" chant. Don't forget 'holic, that Mike Davis more than likely wouldn't have even heard all 17 of us yell the chant at the top of our lungs. Maybe if our students section had a few (hundred) more people

Also...what is up with Thorton? Is he being told that everytime he gets the ball he should throw it at the basket? The guy is ridiculous. I know he is "supposed" to be a good 3 point shooter, though unproven to this point, you can't just throw up a shot every time you get it. He needs to look for the open man or drive to the basket sometimes too.

By "it", I mean "the ball".

There are students that call our players "dumbass" for making bad shots? Man, no wonder so many people in the Horizon hate us, our fans are freaking horrible man. The players don't deserve that.
They should be cheering these guys on no matter what. They just played two tough games against two tough teams...

Yeah those particular fans were pretty annoying. I don't understand the point of going to a UWM basketball game if the only thing you are going to do is bad mouth the players. I can think of much better things to do with my time than that.
We won't have another home game until next week Wednesday, so hopefully we can gain some good experience from Michigan and UNI on the road.
SDSU isn't on the same level as UAB or WSU, but I still expect them to give us all we can handle at this point.

The fact that UWM's own fans would be talking trash at the game is despicable. That's the main problem--there's too many fair weather fans, and most of them don't even know what they're talking about.
People just need to remember that RJ has to completely revamp this team. If we're still losing like this in a month then I'll worry.
By the way Artvandelay, that "just another day" clip is hilarious.

I think is ok to critisize by saying pass the ball or whatever but calling the kid a dumb ass is over the top. Honestly it was better than I expected tonight

Like I said in another thread, being critical and being a negative prick are 2 very different things.
I'd like to think I have enough basketball knowledge to be critical, but I think that people who don't know that much about basketball just resort to negative comments about the players, coaches, etc., which to me is what uwmfutbol said...dispicable.

I think we need a babe of the day forum. I know that looking at the one on the UAB board sure made me happy, even after the thumping we took.
I think the players would enjoy one too for those the browse the board.
