I respect your opinion freak, but I expect at least and NIT berth and possibly NCAA. I refuse to lower my expectations just because it is a rebuilding year, I hope they come out and the shock the league. I believe the NIT now only takes 32 teams. The only way to make the NCAA tournament is by winning the conference tourney (which more than likely will not be happening). The NIT is going to want to take more teams from the BCS conferences. So to be NIT eligible we will need to win at least 15+ games and finish most likely in the top 3 in the Horizon. If this is the case, the NIT will not be in our grasp this year. Sometimes you're just forced to lower expectations because it is extremely difficult to rebuild after losing 7 seniors. However like everyone else in 07-08 we will be back on top!

Was that a travel or a Horizon League pivot?

HELLO? ??!!!!!!!!! MOST OF THESE PLAYERS HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED A SINGLE GAME YET. AND TOP 25? How can you say that you will have a deeper and more talented team next year than a team that has just taken you past the 1st round of the tourney two years in a row and was easily regarded as the deepest team in the HL? I'm sure many of you have been waiting for me to say this, but I won't be coming around here too much anymore. The amount of cheese that i read on this board is too much for me to handle. This has gone from one of the best boards in the HL to one of the worst. I mean, I'd be in denial too if I were in your shoes, but you guys have taken it to a whole new level. I'll be back sometime during the middle of the season to see if your attitude has changed to something more realistic.... UIC board must still be down. Good to hear the joker claim he won't be back too much anymore, and thanks for the shout out on the cheese Big D. I must say, you are correct-Wisconsin does produce the best in the country, some go as far as to say the world. I prefer Aged Swiss, but thats a whole different post. Oh and the middle of season will still be '06-'07, which is not the topic of this post. A toast to Wisconsin cheese and the end of Big D!

I actually have a pretty good feeling about this year. Our full-court pressure defense will keep us in games because we'll be creating more possessions for us to score. The system you run can overcome deficiencies such as experience, which is the biggest one this team has now. Will we win conference? Probably not. But I think a 10-6 record in the HL is more probable than possible.

We will be at least 9-7, if not 10-6. Our home court is just that, ours and I dont see this team losing on it more than once this year. So I figure that is 7 wins likely for this team. The road is going to be tough on everyone this year but I think YSU and CSU should be wins for this team. Anything over 9 wins in gravy for this team since there should be struggles. And there is no doubt in my mind this team makes noise in the conference tournment.

Thank you uwmback24
Without a doubt my expectations are for UWM to make AT LEAST the NIT...We are not playing in some power conference people...We are playing in the freakin Horizon league and its not that tough of a conference....In years past we have been so many steps above every team in our conference....This year we are not nearly as good but that brings us down to everyone elses level and we will be able to contend for the title and beyond
Hoff- your expectations are upsetting to hear....Give me a call sometime

Not stupid, but close. The Horizon League isn't the ACC, but it ain't the Mid-Continent either. This team is going to bust its butt to get the best results possible, and it might not be the best record, but our players will be better for it. Besides, if you lower those expectations, better chances you won't be disappointed.

Black Panther UWM......How long have you followed UWM or gone to the games? We have busted our asses off with the SBGC to raise awareness for the team...Bruce busted his ass off to get this program where it is now and Rob busted his ass last year to keep it here and is doing the same this year...I REFUSE to lower expectations for this team...It is not acceptable to lose and we have the talent and coaches in place to be successful....Please dont come on here and tell my optimistic post borders stupidity when you are are stating we should lower our expectations so there are better chances we wont be disappointed...Thats just goofy and ignorant and the words of a true pessimist

Actually, I think Black Panther's words are more realistic than pessimistic. No doubt that RJ has done a great job and has brought in some nice talent. But, that talent is all young and incredibly unproven. How the team gels together is a huge issue. Expecting an NIT, and nothing short of it, IMHO is an unrealistic expectation considering the loss of all our seniors - basically the entire team.
Hoping for a .500 finish and top half of conference finish is more realistic. Anything more would be wonderful, but certainly not expected.

Do the last several posters realize that they're posting under a thread entitled 2007-08 season. In other words, we're looking ahead to the potentially vast wealth of talent that will flood the court next season. I understand the Tyrone Young Effect (all too well, in fact, as I was one of those who most overrated his impact to the program) and the trepidation is understandable. But there are those who are acting like every one of the 13 players R.J. has brought into the program since spring, 2005 are going to end up like Tyrone. In fact, I like our odds that many of these players will live up to their press clippings — Roman Gentry, Ricky Franklin, Charlie Swiggett, Deonte Roberts, Anthony Hill, Torre Johnson, and possibly Tim Flowers. Wow.

Anything more would be wonderful, but certainly not expected. definitely, i don't know of any panther fans who WANT to finish lower than what we have in the past but to automatically think we should contend for the title regardless of our situation is absurd. i'm optimistic for our future, but i don't expect anything great this year. you can't ever set a date on when players will "click" and to think talent alone can get you there is naive. don't believe me? ask Dan Snyder.
