Tom Crean, as reported in the MJS, March 22, 2004: [O]n Monday in his office, Crean broke his public silence on what has become a somewhat contentious issue within the community.
"I'm disappointed that so much is being made about a hypothetical that's not happening and won't happen for a long, long time," Crean said.
Marquette will never agree to play UWM in the regular season. That might make MU arrogant but it doesn't make it criminal, for the school is free to schedule whomever it pleases.
Naturally, the Golden Eagles would have everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing UWM, as long as the Panthers are competitive at a high mid-major level. Crean won't say that, but he did say this on the matter:
"We just choose not to," he said when asked why MU won't play UWM. "We have one major rival in the state, and that's the University of Wisconsin. That's all it has ever been and that's all it will ever be."On 9/19/06, a deal to play in the regular season for the next five years (and I would commend to you the import of the last two years being home and home) is nearly finalized. Bravo, gentlemen. Nicely played on Downer Avenue. PRICELESSHere we have Francis quoting a newspaper article to prove his point. Yet only a few days ago Fran said this... "Second, even as shallow as the story yesterday was, it was profoundly worthy of the maxim that you should not believe everything you read in the paper. That's twice now. Should we expect the hat trick?"By the way, here is the exact link so you can look it up yourself uwmfreak.proboards5.com/index.cgi?board=Games&action=display&n=1&thread=2816&page=6So apparently the new Fran rule is that you don't believe everything in the paper, unless it supports his position only in which case you believe everything in the paper. Man, you follow the liberal playbook even when talking sports...that's awesome Fran. PRICELESS. Hypocrcital, but priceless nonetheless. An offer was on the table for several years. IWB says 4 years, I'm not sure where that comes from but he could be right. I only know of a deal on the table for a bit more than 2 years and UWM dismissed it out of hand and MU said fine, we're not going to play you then. Perfectly in sync with what the article says, since the article does not address if any offer was made or any counter offer or how high level the discussions were. Of course people that are close to various athletic departments would know that now wouldn't they. LOL You are PRICELESS. I'm looking forward to the next thing we shouldn't believe or trust only to find you sourcing it a few days later. Should be great theatre and fun for all.

Crazyfred...i may not like your attitude because you come from Marquette and sometimes I consider your posts rude and unnecessary...but in honor of sportsmanship and respect for your dedication to your school...good luck and I hope you are able to attend at least one of these games to root for your team... Well thank you, I hope to attend one too. Rob's a great guy and I had the pleasure of working with him for one year at MU. I think even Rob would tell you I'm not rude...I only give what I get. An eye for an eye. It's funny you didn't mention Fran as being unnecessary or rude...his own posters on the BadgerNation board call him out for that all of the time. When UWM fans bash MU on MU boards, well I'm happy to return the favor. I'm an equal opportunity kind of guy. It is unlikely I will be attending any of the games as they are likely to be in November or December and my sports responsibilities with work will likely prohibit that. However, if we meet later in the season then I could certainly hop on a plane and head out there. And in the greatest sincerity I can apply here...I wish you guys good luck in these games. UWM has come a long way from the cheating days of Steve Antrim and the horrific teams of Cobb and others. I don't care for Bo-Bo the dancing clown or Bruce because of how they conducted themselves and especially how Pearl built that program by getting players to transfer all at the same time to his school (some schools called it tampering), but Rob is a first class guy with first class character (prediction...Pearl's UT team will be on probation within 5 years because he just doesn't learn...his fellow SEC schools will rat him out). Pearl's a great coach but he looks for shortcuts. Rob doesn't do that. I have no problem rooting for UWM with Rob at the helm, none whatsoever. Peace and if I was rude...well what goes around comes around.

Crazy Fred,
There's is a big difference between questioning a story where folks from both sides aren't asked and one where they are. But go ahead and make another monsterously long post, we all know Fran and we trust his judgement far more than we do yours.

Fred, basically, you don't know sh*t about how Bruce Pearl runs his program. If you were paying any attention, he dismissed their starting center from the team recently. Run your mouth about MU, fine, but don't bother going after how you view Pearl as being the way he runs his program.

Tremendous luck and timing, who would have thought such a treasure trove of luck would be headed to suspendered sweaty slimed one. I know Bradley University was very excited about it. So were the other schools. Let's see what happens in the next 5 years to Mr. Pearl and if the SEC schools (which are notorious of NCAA run ins already) don't pounce.

We're trying, but BBFran keeps saying really stupid things. It's hard to ignore him when he does that, you just want to give the old man a hand...some guidance...anything.

While I think we all welcome people from other schools, I also think you are hurting this board with your incessant posts. First you criticized a member's service to his country. Now you are on Fran.
Quite frankly I'm sick of you and your attitude and I think just about every other Panther fan is as well.
I'm sorry that your life is so patheticly boring that you find it necessary to come here and make numerous posts about 1) howcorrupt, a highly respected former coach is, 2) how we poor UWM fans don't know anything about scheduling 3) about Fran's level of intelligence. (anyone who knows him knows he is very intelligent).
You are clearly the most obnoxious poster I have seen on this board. Do us all a favor and leave us alone to discuss OUR team without your name calling, and insults.
Thank you

The deal is almost done, we will play, so stop your b****in...damn you must really be persona non grata on your own message board.

Joah Tucker transferred to UWM so he could be at HOME. There was NO foul play involved in him transferring to Milwaukee.

Bruce is no better or no worse than anybody else. The only reason so many damn MU people did not like him is because you were fearful of what was happening, and what could have happened if we had been able to keep him. He might, just might, have started stepping on some of your hallowed ground for recruits - and got a few. I get so sick of the damn Pearl bashing. Bash your own coach for stooping to the levels he did publically to report deals being done for UWM and UWGB, when in fact they were not. No hard feelings Fred, but take the blinders off.

Pearl did what he had to in order to boost the program up. His intent was to lift us out of the shadow of Marquette and he succeeded. Thanks to BP, Milwaukee has two recognized college programs not just one.

Yeah that's true he definitely did do that. Although don't forget to give Bo Ryan some of the credit. Between having Ryan, Pearl, and now Jeter has head coach we have been extremely lucky.
