Jeter was one of the first guys to recruit Wade, but Crean landed him.
UWM can land players from the Chicago area, but naturally the top Chicago talent will get eaten up by the top major programs.

From what I have heard, we are making a very concerted effort to increase our recruiting presence in Chicago. I know the coaches are very serious about getting more top recruits from the City, and not just the surrounding area. Good luck with that...Chicago is so tough to recruit. All of the top talent is taken away by majors (usually out of state) and the next best talents are the ones that don't qualify (like Banks, Bailey, Williams, Poole, Jeffers) and usually end up at JUCO. Jimmy Collins is known for his recruiting connections, and he's pulled some nice recruits out of Chicago, but it's frustrating to see what's taken from the state. In the past couple years, it looks like JC has shifted his recruiting strategy to include less public league players (other than Jeffers who was originally a UIC recruit before he went off to JUCO in Cali). We've been burned a lot by academic issues, and your staff better heavily weigh whether they want to open that door. One day everything could be looking great. The next day, a Martell Bailey type player is out for the season, and it's rebuilding time. Dude, I don't want to hear about your coach and his good recruiting but bad report card on academics. Jeter's guys go to class, anyone on campus every day will tell you that.

chicago is definitely a tough place to land top flight talent. if the '07 class is in fact done, we've definitely got some time on our hands to pursue some prospects. i'm not saying we will land some of these guys right away and i wouldn't be surprised if it takes a few years before we snag one or two. obviously there's a lot of factors when recruiting guys and there's no guarantee any specific prospect will/won't pan out. even if these guys can't come to uwm straight out of high school, we'll send them to ND Prep and get them a year later.
