Other than the lack of class (and teeth), most UWM fans are riding smoothly on the black and gold bandwagon (I will admit there are exceptions). You guys only know this team as a winner, and consequently, you have these skewed expectations. Did I really see someone suggest winning a National Championship in another thread? Please, let's stay off the drugs here.
I hate to say it, but those of you that refuse to believe you are going to be down this year are in for a rude awakening. I know it's hard to watch your team go from greatness to swirling down the crapper, but the sooner you come to terms with the fact that it is inevitable, the better. Packers fans already have a head start on dealing with this process...
Anyway, just my 2 cents...
Oh and before you turn this into a UIC bashing, keep in mind that I've never been anything but honest when it comes to UIC. You won't see me spouting off about national championships and winning with a 5-guard offense. I'll be shocked if we finish in the top 3 this year...
Thank you...

oh man, reading this makes me think we won't win any popularity contests among our HL brethren . being a "toothless UWM fan" is still better than being a Cubs fan any day of the week/year/lifetime.

Lack of Class?? Jimmy Collins is the pure definition of lack of class. How many times did he snub Bruce? Your judgment is clouded by your jealousy.

No bold predictions here. I will say that this program will not be "swirling down the crapper" any time soon.

Who do you think are the top three this year? Because honestly I do see UIC in the top three this year.

Come on Big D.... This thread is weak. Here's my predictions: 1) UWM will not win the National Championship in my lifetime 2) We will be better than UIC this year 3) We'll be better than most HL fans think we'll be

I think that Loyola, Detroit, and UWGB will be in the top 3 (in some order). I'm not saying UIC can't do it, because they actually have the talent to win the whole thing, but there's the whole coaching aspect that we usually don't do so well with.
I'm fairly certain that UIC will be better than UWM but UWM may be better than most fans think. I still do not believe you can finish above 5th....you'll be more like 6th or at worst 7th...
Let me tell you now. If you thought Jeffers was good last year....just wait til this season. I have a feeling he's going to be an absolute animal this year. Word is he's been working extremely hard in the offseason. If UIC can finish in the top 3, he will compete for POY (he'll be a shoe-in next year). With that said, I still think Schilb wins it.

Here's the catch with this national championship issue: I never like to say 'Never.' Though it's highly unlikely to happen unless there's a major change in the school's conference affiliation, I remember a time 10 years ago when there were those who said that UWM would never get to an NCAA Tournament. Obviously, that hurdle was passed 4 seasons ago.

well, how to react to this one? number one, you're right on about the national champ quote. that is just plain ridiculous. and i agree, there are many on this board who know this team only as the nationally respected one we've had assembled for the last 4 or 5 years. but, as someone who's watched this program for many years i can tell you my excitment and enthusiasm stems from watching how it's grown. they haven't won by getting lucky. they didn't happen to fall into some good recruit that fell through the cracks or just happen to have one stellar season. it's been incremental growth that started with a very good AD. he brought in quality coaches that knew how to win, and how to get alums and the public excited about joining the ride. every year has been a step forward and just now we'll start to see how that's moved the program forward. the recruits we're getting now wouldn't have been imaginable years ago. so, i agree they'll probably take a step back in terms of record this season. there's simply too many unknowns. however, the talent pool should prove that the Panthers are reaching a point where it's more a matter of reloading than rebuilding. i look forward to surprising many in the HL.

I really wish people wouldn't even respond to garbage threads like this one.
But what do I know? I'm just a toothless uwm fan.

Just to re-state what I've said before: Milwaukee will finish no lower than fourth in the league standings. There's simply no substitute for talent.

I agree with what some others have posted about even replying to this message, but I feel compelled to clearly state what I think as it relates to the '06-'07 season.
But first...Big D, are you an instigator or what? What's the point of starting an anti-UWM fan message on a UWM message board.
You're free to voice your opinion about the state of the basketball program, but to suggest that UWM fans are classless, toothless and drug addicts is not necessary unless you're just a negative person. Which I guess it turns out that you are. Just be careful how you throw that negativity around though...because karma is a biyatch!
I don't think UWM will finish in the top 3. Realistically I think they'll be 4th or 5th...maybe 6th at the worst. No visions of a National Championship in my head.
I, like others have posted, think that they will surprise some people in the HL. Maybe not with their record/standing so much, but how tough they'll play some of the better teams in the conference.
Anyway...that's my take on the upcoming year. Realistic, yet positive.

Big D - I would be very willing to make some sort of (relatively ) friendly bet regarding which team finshes better this year. How about a donation to the other school's Athletic Fund, or general scholarship fund?
