I caught a 2006-2007 Panther commercial on TV last night...I think it was on Comedy Central around 9:00-9:15pm.
Anyway, at first (first 20 seconds) I thought it was a commercial FOR Avery Smith. They showed him in about the first 6 shots, mixed in with the Panther logo with Bill Johnston's play-by-play dubbed over the top. Then there were a few Allan Hanson images mixed in.
Then, get this...there was a picture of Derrick Ford and another of Chris Hill. I thought that was weird seeing how they graduated.
None of RJ, none of Tyrone Young, none of Messiah...thought that was strange.
All in all, it got me a little more pumped for the season, but I hope they edit that commercial and get a different one out there after the season starts and we have some footage/photos of Ricky, Paige, Charlie, Sam, etc. in a Panther uniform.

It was on Comedy Central? interesting. I would love to see it.
Hey, I still think Smith could be a really good player if he gains control. he was only a sophmore. I believe Clay tucker was a bit wild too in his early years.
I wish Ford still had eligibility. he was finally starting to "get it" by the end of last season. I think one more and he would have really been something.

Please tell me you didn't just compare Clay to Avery.........while Clay may have been a tad OC at times early in his career, he was never anywhere near the level of wildness that AS consistently plays with - not to mention Clay's overall skills were a lot more developed/refined. Avery could develop into a nice/serviceable player, but comparing him to Clay, one of the best players the program has seen, is a stretch.

It was on Comedy Central? interesting. I would love to see it. Hey, I still think Smith could be a really good player if he gains control. he was only a sophomore. I believe Clay tucker was a bit wild too in his early years. I wish Ford still had eligibility. he was finally starting to "get it" by the end of last season. I think one more and he would have really been something. It may have been VH1 or MTV or Spike...one of those lower "50" channels, for Time Warner subscribers. I agree with pnthr 30...Clay may have been somewhat out of control at times, but his skills were much more refined and "basketball." Avery, while very athletic and extremely tough defensively, hasn't shown me much of anything as it relates to a jump-shot or creating his own shot. He gets to the rim decently enough, but he's likely to draw a team's better defender this year as there is no Boo, Joah, etc. We'll see though. Please don't interpret this as a knock on Avery. I like him and what he brings. It's just, I didn't tense-up when Clay had the ball as I did last season when Avery had the ball in his hands.

You didn't tense up when Clay had the ball because by his senior season, he could've played on any team in the country. Avo...not so much. He has time though. Let's hope he figures out how to play more controlled. Besides, having ears that stick out makes for good T.V. :-p
