That's all that matters to me. I think itt should matter, because it signals a move to the next level for the program. This was AS important as a win over a Big 12 school in the tournament, if not MORE so. It's just not as obvious as a Big Dance Win.

It was MORE important. It says UWM is a program on the rise, that we take care of our own, that's it a desireable destination and that people can invest time and money into the program and not have to worry as soon as the team's successful we'll have to start all over again.

I think the simple fact that we, as a mid-major, are now paying our coach 500K a year signals a huge commitment from the school and donors to the program. We are catching up with some of the big boys faster than I thought we would or could.

I agree, and I think if Jeter would have left, it would have taken the program awhile to recover. Plus it would have been tough to get a coach in for next season for a team with 7 departing seniors and multiple recruits in limbo.
The fact that Jeter will be the Head Coach at UWM next year, no matter how it played out, is HUGE for the program, the returning players and the incoming freshman!
I saw interviews on the local news w/ Big Shot Al and Ricky Franklin on Tuesday night, after it was announced that Jeter was staying in Milwaukee, and you could just see the relief in their faces....especially Al.
I also think that by Jeter staying he's sending a message to people, the players particularly, that he's committed to UWM's success and that they better be too!
I think the players will push themselves, and each other, a little harder in the off-season workouts which will make UWM a better team next season and in seasons to come!

If were successful next year and on, AD's will be calling for Jeter, and then we'll really see if UWM is a diserable destination for coaches to stay.

Dont forget about Avery Smith, some of the quotes I read from him when he knew Jeter was staying you could tell how much he likes Jeter and how much he values him as a coach.
Its really good to see how much the guys that are going to be back next year seem to like and embrace Jeter.

There will always be programs that any coach would be willing to leave for. It would be crazy to think if any of these type of programs came calling our or any coach would not jump on it. Like I have said all along thought, winning is small price to pay for losing your coach. That keeps the job attractive and the recruits interested.

There will always be programs that any coach would be willing to leave for. Short list off the top of my head: *UW-Madison *North Carolina *Kansas *Kentucky *UCLA *UConn *Duke *Arizona *Michigan State *Illinois *Indiana I don't see any of those calling on Jeter anytime too soon. Indiana has an opening, but they are not looking his way. the rest are pretty much stable, with the possible exception of Kentucky.

Or any BCS school that can double your salary, along with your assistants' salaries.

I was making the list that "any coach" would leave their current position for.
For Jeter, that's just the start of the list.

If Jeter is making 500k with step ups every year there are not many BCS schools that will double that. Remember not all schools have as deep of pockets as Tenn. did with Pearl. With Jeter going forward it will likely have to be a situation he feels he can be successful in more than just getting that fat raise.

I think you guys overvalue this just a bit. It's a good step in the right direction, but I'll bet you in a few years if we remain successful that Rob will be offered another big conference job. It will probably be better than ISU, and I wouldn't be surprised if he takes that. So, I don't really see whether Jeter shot them down or they shot Jeter down as being all that important.

Sorry dude, but there's absolutely no way that Madison is a gig any coach would leave for. You're putting Madison in the mix with all those teams with fantastic basketball histories?

This is gonna sound so cliche, but I think this actually fits right in the middle of what the both of you are saying. Yes, he probably will leave in a few years (should we remain to be successful). However the more we can afford to increase a coaches salary, and in turn the buyout, when the leave eventually does take place we are simply increasing money. It's all a building process, it's been going on steadily for 6 or so years now. At the current pace/rate we are going, eventually we will have enough money/resources to hire a coach to stay.
And who cares who chose what, I don't understand what the big deal is. Jeter is here and that's all that matters.
GO PANTHERS
