While I'd like to wish he had left for selfish reasons (we experienced the coaching carosel, and it was not fun!) I think it is good for UWM, the Horizon, and Mid-Majors in general that a coach actually showed some guts to stick out a commitment, and turn down an offer from a Major program.
You need a returning coach more than ever, with all of the guys you need to replace this year!
Props to Jeter for being a stand up guy, and realizing that he needs to do some maturing as a head coach before making a move. The mid-majors will always loose good coaches to the major programs, as long as money and the system is as it is currently. Hopefully this is one of several needed steps that will continue to help the Mid-Majors out there get what they deserve.
Major conference bias - suck on some mid-MAJOR balls.

Maybe you can answer because I was drawing a blank ... was Lickliter courted for any jobs after his first year or the Sweet 16 year?

not that I recall - but he was offered a pretty big contract extension.
It was more the Collier - Matta - Lickliter transition that was so difficult.

Hopefully he'll lead us out of the Horizon League and into the MVC so we don't have to worry about coaches leaving after one year of success.

Even MVC teams are not immune to coaches moving on to major conferences ... Northern Iowa is experiencing this right now.
Southern Illinois is all too familiar with it too ... but to its credit has remained an NCAA Tournament team under three coaches in the past four years.

Yeah look at where Weber is now... Though I'm sure the MVC is more appealing than the Horizon League for any mid-major coach.

OK, but don't you think you are pigeon-holing a coach by calling him"mid-major." I think any and every coach (at least the good ones) looks at each position as a unique opportunity. Lots of factors play a role, including but not limited to: Salary Program history Facilities Future opportunities Conference etc. etc. I don't think any coach says "Well, I am a mid-major coach, so the best I can hope for is the MVC." p.s. Don't hate on the Mouth
