That was such a great win. Not only because of our first NCAA appearance, but we destroyed a great, legendary Butler team.

Didn't they switch it after that year to the Championship game being held at the higher seed?

That was the first year of the new format. However, since UWM was contracted to host the 2003 tournament already, if UWM was alive in the second round or semifinals it would host those rounds as well as the championship if it advanced that far (which UWM obviously did ... UWM was the No. 2 seed and Butler was No. 1, that's why Butler wore their white jerseys and UWM, well, wore their gold jerseys ... which were our home jerseys at the time anyway).
Butler was already contracted to host the 2004 tournament, and hosted the second round and semifinals since it advanced that far from the No. 6 seed I believe. However, Butler lost in the semifinals to UIC, which was seeded No. 2. UWM was the No. 1 seed and beat Detroit in the semis, sending the championship back to Milwaukee ... since UWM was the highest remaining seed.
Last year's tournament was the first "pure" year of the format, meaning the No. 1 seed hosted the second round and semifinals no matter what ... and would host if it advanced to the championship.
