I saw this at CNNSI.com...an article by Seth Davis...
"There are nine leagues with the potential to have only one team in position to earn an at-large bid on Selection Sunday. If that team loses in its conference tournament, it would eat up a spot that would otherwise go to one of the bubble boys. As of now, my firm wild-card teams are: George Washington (Atlantic-10), Memphis (Conference USA), Nevada (WAC) and Gonzaga (West Coast). The shakier wild cards are: George Mason (Colonial), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Horizon), San Diego State (Mountain West), Bucknell (Patriot) and Western Kentucky (Sun Belt)."
Also saw on the Bracketology that they have UWM as a 13 seed. Playing either North Carolina, LSU, Iowa or West Virginia.

Actually looked a little deeper after I posted this...it's got UWM playing Iowa in the first round.

I see no way that we can get an at large bid just because of how we played recently and we dont have a major win to hang our hat on. If we had won at Wisconsin I think it would be a more respectable resume.

I agree! We had a really good RPI about mid-way through the HL schedule and if we could have gotten either the Butler or WSU game on the road and not lost to UIC at home...I think it'd be more likely.
The other thing working against a UWM at-large is the Missouri Valley Conf. w/ 5-6 teams that have a legitimate chance at an at-large...it all depends on how they all do in their conference tourney.
I think though that the MVC is a 2, maybe even 3, bid conference this season.

Milwaukee is simply one of the many "lip service" at-large teams. sportswriters will mention them to look like they're seriously considering every team, but no way are we a legit at-large. too many slip ups down the stretch. just gotta get it done in the tourney. hopefully we can at least grab the 12-seed then.

You're probably right. Jay Bilas(ESPN) has been saying for a few weeks that UWM is his sleeper in the tourney and is picking them to go back to the Sweet 16.
While that would be awesome...how likely is it really? Not very in my opinion.
Besides Gonzaga...what "cinderella team" has had repeated success in the tourney? Have there been any?

I'd say the MVC is looking at either 4 or 5 bids this tourney. A very, very strong conference.

I agree it is strong, but not strong enough for 5 bids. I am thinking they get 3 for sure, but likely 4. Northen Iowa I would think should be the most concerned and if they go out in an early round of the conference tourny I think they could miss out due to the struggles they have had the last few weeks.

The committee will forgive loses early in the season faster than they will later on. If we hadn't slipped up against Butler and UIC and had beaten Missouri State we might have had a chance for at an large should we lose in the conference tourney but as it is, there's no way.
