Is this Bill?  I can't say he is the worst - because he actually has a decent voice, and does ok with the call - it's all the unprofessional comments, inproper pronunciation of names, and overall lack of professionalism that he displays; and worst of all he seems to embrace his method! Listen to Butler's announcer, Chris Denari, and tell me that there isnt a major difference in quality. Granted Denari is pretty much at the top of the food chain as far as experience goes (Lead Fox TV Sports anchor, Pacers broadcast staff, Indiana Fever WBNA announcer, and Indy 500, Brickyard 400, and USGP radio call - and 10+ years with Butler) By the way, nice win - I really didn't think Detroit would win, that was just for some good mojo, but I definitely didnt think you'd dismantle them like you did! I have a feeling that we'll face a much tougher Detroit team when we visit them this weekend... |

Unfortunately most people don't realize that there kinds of journalism. There's unbiased journalism and there's advocacy journalism.
Johnson falls in the latter group. He knows the game well. You may not agree with all of his opinions but then again look at how we argue on our fan boards over strategy and even what happened in a game.
Moreover, he makes the game entertaining to listen to for UWM fans. He gets them excited and that in turn encourages them to come to games. Given the attendance for most HL teams, perhaps more schools in the Horizon League could use that.

Detroit will definitly be stepping it up this weekend and throughout the Hor. Tourny! Graves and Polk are goin to have an amazing game on saturday in order to stop goode and cotton from taking the game away... tonight was a clear misunderstanding on the court by the mercy titans.... i dont think butler will be that lucky to see that sh*tty of a team on saturday!
Hopefully the fightin' penguins will shut Butler up before detroit will even have to worry bout them... Milwaukee will take the crown!

I hope you are right about which team will show up for us Saturday... but pleeeeeaasseee do not call us the mercy titans! lol And as far as Bill Johnson goes, yes he falls into the enthusiastic homer announcer, which is fine, but its the unprofessional comments that he sometimes makes , as well as mispronouncing of the names that got me tonight. He should be better prepared than that. Also I've got to mention again how perplexed I was to see Perry Watson's name listed as Perry Wilson during your postgame show, along with the CSU logo for us. Altogether, very unprofessional in those regards. Nice graphics and setup otherwise... |

You're right about the misprounciations and getting Perry's name wrong. But I don't think he has anything to do with the logo that's shown on the internet broadcasts

Sure, we are mentioning his name, but in the process nobody has respect for him... why should we care if our conference opponents don't like our announcer? do they pay his salary? no, we do. we like him and chances are he can stay as long as he likes. no one is forcing other teams' fans to listen to his commentary. they are making the choice to listen to him. no one is putting a gun to their heads. if you don't like him, then mute the media player you're watching the game on and shut up. |
