Reposted to include Adrian.
Remember, the award is PLAYER OF THE YEAR ... not necessarily the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER.
Enjoy. Voting ends next Sunday night.

Humphrey from YSU would have a shot if they could win some games, but otherwise, the award has to go to someone on a team competing for the championship.
I have been very impressed with Wood from WSU, but again, I think there are more qualified candiates from teams that are competing for the championsihp ( BU, UWM)
I agree with the previous post, if Butler wins, Polk will take it. If UWM wins, most likely Tucker will win it...
Actually, I think that your depth has hurt your players chances at a walk away POY.. Tigert, Tucker, and even Davis are all capable, but they all share the ball, so nobody walks away with standout numbers. In my opinion, when he's on the floor, Tigert is your most valuable player.
I honestly think, that it is Polk's award to loose, he's been the leader on a Butler team that had to deal with serious roster questions, and lead them to a very unprobable chase for the conference championship. In the process, he's posted league leading numbers, and been a force on the court. Without Polk, we'd be at the bottom of the conference, without any one of your three candidates, I think you guys would still be performing at a very high level in the conference.

Player of the Year...Brandon Cotton...averaging close to 19 per game....although I agree with the notion that player of the year should come from the best team in the conference, its hard to imagine anyone having a better year under worse circumstances than Brandon Cotton....

Polk (Butler 10-4): 14 games: 19.3 PPG (conference), 17.8 PPG(overall), 5.1 Reb (C), 4.7 (O), 41 blocks Cotton (Detroit 7-7): 11 games: 18.9 PPG (conf.), 17.7 (overall), 2.3 apg
I think Cotton is an great player - a little too much of a gun if you ask me, but very good.
However, Polk has just as good, if not Better numbers, and is on a league leading team; and has put up these numbers all season long.. its not his fault, but Cotton was out because of an injury, and hasn't been able to play as many games - and still does not have the individual influence that Polk has for Butler on the court.

Personally, I think it's a close race AND it's too early to tell.
I know that sounds weird given where we are in the season, but when it's a close race...every game matters.
There are 7 teams in the conference (Butler, Wright St., Detroit, Loyola, UIC, Cleveland St., and Youngstown St.) that have to play one more game than UWM. I think you have to wait until the regular season is complete.
With that stated,
(1) Tigert - a rock. 12-13ppg, 7-8rpg. multiple double-doubles. drops 2-3 dimes each night, as the 6'7 Center.
(2) Humphrey - what an athlete. leads the league in ppg(18.6) & rpg(8.1) and he's a 6'4 shooting G for the worst team in the conf. So he's constantly playing against better teams...which makes what he does valid in my eyes.
However, I think Tucker will win it IF UWM wins the Regular season. He was a pre-season candidate as much for his play in the HL last season as he was for his NCAA tourney run.
All of his numbers are up this season, including turnovers...but he's still better than last year and he's the focal point of every defense UWM faces...and he wasn't always last season.
IF UWM wins out, Tucker gets it...deservingly or not? Let's here more thoughts..
