I feel like there is so much Tyrone Young bashing going on and I dont believe that it is justified. Today at the game these two old men in front of me were screaming at him to stop shooting and telling him to get 3 more fouls after he picked up his second. I know I might be one of a few people, but I believe he has the talent to be player of the year next year. As I watch shoot around prior to games I generally watch Young hoping that he will show me something to get excited about. And game in and game out he does; he is consistenly making three pointers with ease. He has the talent to be one of the top 5 players in this league he just needs to know that if he screws up that he wont be pulled. Today against Missouri State he was given that and although he didnt step up with a good game I could see the confidence growing in him as the game went on. The floater he shot was a good shot and should have gone in as well as the deep shot that he attempted. I dont remember the other two shots but I was extremely pleased with his performance today. Young should ALWAYS play before Pancratz and Wimmer.

I sometimes feel like I'm alone here... but I'm excited about what he can bring us next season. The only thing I get frustruated about is the shot selection... if he puts up some better shots, they'll drop.

He was so far off on most of his shots, it's hard to share that confidence. He really looks like he has a depth perception problem.
However, he is a good ball handler and there were others out there who were no better in their shooting.

Because I have a different opinion than you, you assume I was smoking weed and I am an idiot? At least have something constructive to say rather than making insults. Be constructive not a dumb ass.

I will say with confidence that Tyrone will be a major player for us next year (regardless of what Freak will tell you). As long as he's eligible of course.
Good post backer but player of the year? Panther of the year is realistic.

Believe what he has shown not what has been played out on paper...tyrone has given me nothing to go on for next year....so far he isnt much of a gamer...but practice might tell a different story

I like Tyrone a lot and call for him to get in the game, but player of the year?? Come on, you can't realize that's a little outlandish?
To follow your line of thinking backer24: Luke Homan looked unreal in warmups last year, consistently draining threes with ease. He missed some shots in the games he got into but they should have gone in (what does that mean?). I could see his confidence growing. Homan should have always played before Pancratz and Wimmer.
Yes, that is sarcasm and yes, Tyrone will have to play major minutes next year. But if you are relying on him to be Player of the Year then it's going to be a looong year for us.

I think at this point we all should be satisfied if Tyrone can give us 15 minutes a game next year, and maybe 7 points and a couple rebounds -- probably off the bench. Anything more than that would be a lucky strike extra. I'm pulling for the kid, but any thought right now that he will be a leading player on the team is based purely on wishful thinking.
I thought his instincts as to when to shoot yesterday were mostly okay, but his skill level in making those shots is very low.

I think Tyrone is the kind of player that looks the part, i.e. a linebacker who's 6-2", 240 pounds, runs a 4.5 40, benches 225 something like 35 times, etc. Then when he gets on the field he has no idea and pretty much takes up space. The tools are there but he doesn't have a feel for the game. And his shots are so off sometimes you really do wonder whether or not he does indeed have a depth perception. I would love to see some tape of him in Junior College dropping 30 on somebody just so I know it actually happened. I don't buy the "he needs to adjust to D-1 basketball" excuse. Why is Avery Smith comfortable out there then? It didn't take Ed McCants one minute to adjust and he spent two years in a JUCO like Young did. Maybe the kid just doesn't have it. What's he proven in nearly an entire year at this level?

Ed only spent one year at Paris JC. He played his freshman year at Northwestern.

That's right, I forgot about his year at Northwestern.

Seems to me Tyrone is not a good fit at all for this offense system. He and Avo both have such awkward form when shooting I wince ever time I see them touch the ball. To Avo's credit, he's at least been a bit more consistent and dropping a few in. His aggressiveness on D is a major plus (Avo), but I'm just not feeling it for Tyrone. He seems quick as hell getting up and down the floor when needed, but it just doesn't seem like he's clicking with this team or the offense.

It seems like I might be the biggest Young supporter on this board, which is fine. But even I have to admit that I hope that Jeter or Bidlingmeyer works with him on his shot. Hopefully next year in the exhibition games his lights up a team for 30 and realizes that he can do it and it spring boards him for the rest of the season. Correct me if I am wrong, didnt Boo look suspect last year at times as well. There were games when he would show up and then games when he would completely lay an egg. If Young can turn into another Boo Davis this team could be better than advertised.

Young's form on his jumper just doesn't look very good. Boo always has always had a smooth-looking, rhythm jumper. Young's jumper looks awkward. I can't picture him coming off a screen and pulling up. He just looks so mechanical on his shot. He's not a true shooter and I don't think he can take over for Boo next year. I see him more as a small forward/slash to the hoop guy rather than someone you can count on to knock down two or three 3's a game.
