Here is how it breaks down officially:
(1) If we beat Detroit and Butler loses, we get first place alone and get the #1 seed with the Tournament in Milwaukee.
(2) If Butler beats Detroit and we lose to Detroit, they get first place alone and get the #1 seed with the Tournament in Indy at Hinkle.
(3) If both teams win or lose, it gets interesting... Since both teams are 1-1 vs. the third place team Wright State, it would go to the 4th which is Detroit. If both win or lose, then we would both be 1-1 versus Detroit.
Then the tiebreaker would go to 5th place and the only way we get the #1 seed is IF AND ONLY IF Loyola gets the tiebreaker over UIC AND UWGB. This will only happen if Loyola wins their last 2 games vs. WSU and YSU AND if UWGB loses at CSU.
So if we tie Butler, Loyola needs to win their last two games while UWGB needs to lose at CSU (UWGB already lost at home to CSU by 3).

Here are the games that will potentially matter (all times Central):
Loyola vs. WSU 2/22 -- 7:00 Loyola @ YSU 2/25 -- 7:05
UWGB @ CSU 2/25 -- 4:30
Butler vs. YSU 2/22 -- 6:00 Butler @ Detroit 2/25 -- 4:00
So we won't know until about 6:00 on Saturday the 25th whether or not we get the #1 seed based on Butler's game...and we may have to wait until Loyola's game ends at about 9:00 if that scenario plays out!

Thanks for compiling all this fan04, albeit confusing, still good to know.
As if the situation were clearer.

The easiest way to look at it:
If Butler and UWM both win out in the conference and each finish 12-4, then UWM wins the tie-breaker only if,
a. Loyola wins its final two conference games and b. UWGB loses at CSU and c. UIC loses either of its two remaining conference games
If Butler and UWM each lose one more conference game and finish 11-5, it gets a little more complex. If Butler beats YSU but loses at Detroit, the above scenario remains intact. If Butler loses to YSU and wins at Detroit, then Butler automatically wins the tie-breaker because:
a. It will then own a tie-break advantage over Detroit, with two wins. UWM would have to lose vs. Detroit to finish 11-5. b. Detroit would finish 8-8 and Loyola could only tie them. c. YSU can finish in a tie with UIC but can't catch UWGB.

Here's an easier way to look at it
We're rooting for Loyola, and CSU and we're rooting for Detroit when it plays Butler.

Here is my reply from Sports Information Director Kevin O'Connor:
Thanks for your feedback. In fact, the story is correct. According to the Horizon League's tiebreaking procedures, ties below you in the standings are NOT broken when breaking your ties. In other words, if Butler and UWM tie for first and UIC and Loyola tie for 4th (at 8-8 as noted in your scenario), UIC and Loyola will be considered as ONE team for the tiebreaker. Thus, Butler would have a 3-1 record against these teams (2-0 v UIC, 1-1 v Loyola), and UWM would have a 3-1 record against these teams (1-1 v UIC, 2-0 v Loyola). They would not break the tie. It would then go to the next team in the standings, which would be UW-Green Bay and Detroit. Again, treating both of those 7-9 teams as ONE team, UWM was 1-1 against GB and 2-0 v Detroit, while Butler was 2-0 v GB and would now be 2-0 v Detroit. The tie would be broken in Butler's favor. As stated in the release, if Butler beats Detroit Saturday, UWM needs three things to happen (Loyola win, GB loss, UIC loss) to have the tie broken in their favor. - Kevin
