Can anyone shed some light on why Wimmer, Smith and Ford started the 2nd half? And why was the team not out of the locker room until after the halftime buzzer went off?
I can see if Jeter wanted to make a point, but he had Tigert, Boo and Hill waiting at the scorers table at the beginning of the half. And then there was a dead ball about 1:30 into the half and the 3 starters reported in.
What was that all about?!

from what I understand, since they didnt come out until after the halftime buzzer, they had to. I have no knowledge on halftime rules, but I'd think players still need to report in.
I'm guessing Jeter was rightfully scolding the team at the half. and I'd hope that after the game Jeter kept the team at the cell shooting freethrows and running killers until 6am today.

You are correct. If you noticed the starters (AT, Boo and Hill) were on the floor until told by the refs they could not start the half. In effect, since the team was not out prior to the sound of the horn the players on the floor at the end of the first half were required to start the 2nd.

Got it...thanks! I thought maybe it was one of Jeter's brilliant substitution moves, a la playing Wimmer in cruch time at Wright St.

I wasn't close enough to hear, but it looked from the conversations I saw that the UWM coaches were telling the refs that somehow they weren't aware of the time. I could be wrong.
That's the first time I've ever seen that happen. Bizarre.

I don't know Wimmer or anything and he's certainly not our best player but he's not a disgrace either. I haven't seen him turn over the ball, take a dumb shot, or make a stupid shot yet.
He wouldn't be out there if he wasn't coming to practice and working hard, so maybe some people need to ease up on him. After all he's doing something that only a few people on this board have ever done, he's wearing a Panther uniform. That alone should merit some respect.

There is absolutely no excuse for the home team to not know how much time until the game starts. That was absurd. Quite a few poor decisions last night.

It wasn't my intention to be hard on him, but his appearance in the WSU game was unusual and made me question Jeter's subbing pattern more than Wimmer's ability. At WSU was a tough fought game, neck and neck the whole time, he never takes of his warm-up shirt and then with like 6 minutes to go...he's in! And not just to give Boo or whoever a quick breather...he was in for substantial minutes...through a time out and everything. I think Wimmer's is like most everyone on the bench...serviceable, but cannot be counted on, on a regular basis to contribute. Last night proved that point.

I hate hearing people talk about Wimmer, Avo, and especially Pancratz. Maybe they aren't the MVPs of the team, they may not score a lot, and they make mistakes, but they are on the team and that's what matters. If they weren't good for something, they wouldn't be on the team. With Wimmer, he'll be a senior next year, its about time he gets some PT

I think it was the Wisconsin-Madison game, where Wimmer was in for about 10 seconds and coughed up the ball bringing it up court.

I love how most of us criticize these kids and most of the people on this board probably never played basketball even in high school and try and scrutinize college players coming off the bench for a solid D1 program

Derrick gets a bad rep, yet you never give him a chance. You know why he was on the floor late in the game? He's one of the best 3 point shooters on the team, that's why. As for the halftime thing, it may be that they lost track of time and didn't get in on time to get the starters ready. You hope they were shooting free throws long after the game? Sorry to burst your bubble, but I sat with Kaylan Anderson for about 15 minutes after the game in an empty arena. Absolutely no free throws going on that night. Chris Hill had family up from Chicago up for the game, I'm sure he was embarrassed. He shouldn't be. He's a damn good ballplayer, and his legacy won't be this loss. Let's make sure he knows we appreciate his years here on Tuesday.

Jimmy,
Why shouldn't Chris be embarrassed by the way he played? One game does not affect the way that most people feel about his legacy. He has hot big shots for UWM in the past and a lot of fans love him for that. However, I think if you ask Chris, he would say he played one of his worst games in a UWM uniform.

there is no reason to come out late after the half. What are the assistant coaches there for? Someone should have been watching the time. No excuse for that.

Kroener3535 - You're right, I didn't play D1 basketball. So I should waive my right to criticize a player at that level. Whatever!
Isn't that what this board is for? Maybe we should all come here and pat each other on the back for a loss to UIC. I mean the guys did play hard right?
Finally, stating that Wimmer coughed up the ball in 10 seconds of play at Madison is not criticizing a player. It is stating a fact! I didn't say he shouldn't be playing because of it. But even without my D1 college basketball experience, I am plenty capable of looking at a game and deciding that Derrick Wimmer was overmatched talentwise in that game.
