Just got back from the game and the first half was ugly. Tucker shooting jump shots, no movement on offense. Second half the guys came out with some energy and attitude. Much more movement on offense, guys driving and dishing, pounding it in the post w/ Tucker and the free throw shooting was much better. Massiah is looking like the player he was billed to be and Smith just keeps getting better (except for the dunk he missed and landed on his ass). I dont know what was said in the locker room at half, but must have been something because the team look like, well a team and played very well w/ lots of energy and heart.
Also, there was a nice turn out from the student section, rest was a bit thin, but between the weather, bucks game, and a slow start to the year not too bad.

I thought Tigert had a great game tonight. He played great D on their big man, and his scoring really helped in the first half when the team was struggling a bit offensively.

I thought attendance was great tonight. With this type of weather I expected all the fans to stay home, but instead the place was almost half full. The student section was loud and into the game.
This post is an apology to Chris Hill, and Allan Hanson for any bad words I have spoke about them in the past. Those guys played great tonight and hit outside shots and free throws.
Jeter sure as hell made some adjustments or light a fire under those guys butts because the second half was a totally different game. That was a joy to watch, and a much needed win.

Chris Hill shot 3-4 3 pointers tonight, which was outstanding, and Hanson looks like he might be ready for D1 ball (along with Massiah; he gets more confidence each time I watch him).
The thing that I liked the most was the well-roundedness of the scoring; it's encouraging when that many players score points.
Those 2 missed dunks really sucked though.
A solid game (at least the 2nd half).

I have to say that when ever I saw Hanson coming on the court I got a little worried but man did he impress me tonight
Did anyone notice the adjustment by Jeter in the second half limiting #25 Liddell to just 5 second half point after he scored 17 in the first
Great game tonight guys
Oh by the way Attendance: 4,235

i thought attendance was good despite the slow start to the season, the snow and the Bucks playing as well. i was hoping for a double digit win and i got it so i was happy, and that 4 players scored in double figures was a nice change of pace. we definitely showed much more composure in the 2nd half which we needed since we seemed to juggle being one or two steps behind in the first half.

LOL
I was in the press conference after the game, and Jeter was asked a question by the guy from WSSP.
"What can you tell us about South Dakota State?"
"Um, well, you'll all need to get to know me, because I don't know a thing about SD State...you come ask me at 2 in the morning, I'll know a lot about SD State. But, uh, no, I don't know a thing about South Dakota State."

Art, you must have glasses that blur your vision to think it was half full. I'll be damned if there were more than 2000 there tonight no matter what goes in the paper.

When they stopped running down the court and taking the first 3 they thought wouldn't be swatted away they did a great job. Jeter Ball works, and the 82 points we scored shows it's not a slow down offense

Something that won't show up on the stat sheet.... Smith played outstanding defense in the second half and took SLU's best player from the first half (Liddell) essentially out of the game. I think Liddell had 18 in the first half and only 4 in the second. Nice D Avery!!!

I missed the game last night due to a Friday root canal. Did we press? What was tempo like?

Thoughts:
-Minutes were almost perfect (would like to see a few more out of the Messiah) -No 3 minute streak for Tyrone Young...Hooray -AVO's defense on and off ball was and will be a huge asset for this team. The fan counter had him with 3 steals rather than his credited 1. -Who is this Allan Hanson guy and when did he become good? -AT shoots well...we win. No more explanation needed. -I don't think we should give too much credit to the Jeter offense. More credit should be given to Joah who stopped shooting balls from across the street, off balance, and with his eyes closed. -I watched the offense a little closer and two criticisms come about: 1. No one sets the up-pick. 2. When we swing it and the cutter comes across he was open 3 times at least and hit only once. I realize this is a new offense but something like the up-pick is supposed to be the second thing that happens in a normal rotation of the ball. -I'll give the coaching edge to Jeter this game. Soderberg is really bad. -While vegas's line of 9 was covered, I had the "fan" line set at 15. No cover.

Your right about not giving to much credit to Jeter's offense, but only because they are still running a plain swing since the team did not look comfortabel running it until they came out in the second half (did you see ford when he just stood on the wing with his hands up with no clue where to go?) One of the biggest reasons Joah was not taking jump shots as much in the second half is that Jeter went small(er) with usually playing Pancratz, Smith or Massiah thus moving Tucker to the 4 and when he did make his progression through the offense and found himself on the wing or up top he took it to the hoop or cut in when someone else did.
As for not having the cutter take the 3 is because he is not suppose to(atleast this was how I was coached and have seen others coach it that way). This is a shot you can get at the end of the shot clock. They usually did what they needed to with trying to pass it into the post, driving to the rim or kicking it back up top. Massiah did a very good job of this with his pump fake and then attacked. SLU must have thought he was McCants with all the bits they took on his fake.
The biggest key to this offense working is moving the ball quickly since its not a flashy offense, its purpose is to either get the ball into the post or getting the defense out of position for an open shot or an opening to the hoop for a drive. The team did a nice job in the second half and it looks like Jeter is starting to settle in on a rotation.
Not a blow out like I thought was possible, but considering we only played one good half I was happy and it was nice seeing up put 80 on the scoreboard again.
