I mean this in all seriousness. Is it full-court pressure on defense, transition offense? Is it "Hoosiers-style" pass four times before you can shoot? Is it a combination of the two? All I know for sure is what Jeter said when he got hired, and this is what it was:
"We're going to press and you're still going to see our point guards blasting the ball up the floor."
Was the man hired on false pretenses? I understand the season is only three games old, but from what I've seen thus far on tv and the two exhibition games, they're not pressing nor pushing the basketball. I want answers.

Last night in the second half when Bill Johnson kept saying "the Panthers will pressure the inbound pass," I thought that he meant they were pressing, but it's hard to tell listening on the radio

Thanks, that's good info. I didn't hear much of the game last night and am curious to hear if they were pressing or not.
It's Jeter's team and he can run whatever style he feels. But he sold Bud Haidet, the team, and the fans that he would continue "Panther-style" basketball by pressing and, in his own words, "blasting the ball up the floor." I just don't see an identity yet on this team and, unfortunately, I don't think the players do either. This needs to be resolved and fast.

Be patient, I think this is a team that is still developing it's idenity and in the process of implamenting the swing offense going through some growing pains. Mainly shooting woes (lot of missed open looks) through the first three games we are shooting 34% from the floor, I'm hoping that we can get this up in upper 40 percentile by the time the conference season rolls around. Other people on this board can give you much more insite, I can only listen to the games online but these are my observations from what I've read and heard.

The Assistant Coach was on the radio after the game said they 'learned alot about the team tonight."
Keep in mind that practice only gets you so far. The coaching staff has too learn what hot buttons to push and which ones to stay away from, who will do what in which situation etc.
Only then can they make necessary adjustments. If Jeter isn't trying to do what he said it may be that he thought it would work but it won't, or it could be that when they learn more about his offense and defense it will happen.
At any rate, I'd rather he ate his words then stuck by them if they turned out to be a mistake

But what he said he would do when he was hired - press and continue the transition game - DID WORK. That's why he said they would keep doing the things they did under Pearl, because it was in fact successful. Changing the system on a senior-laden team, a team that was hugely successful for four years, would have a seriously negative effect on this season.

I thought the same way as you do. But then I watched the games and realized that we don't have the shooters to run that transition game without Mc Cants.
And we have been pressing only slightly less than we did last year when it is called for and when it helps. As others noted pressing Memphis with their quicker bigger players would have been as useless as it was when we pressed Illinois last year.

I agree w/ your assessment re: Memphis this year and Illinois last year. Also, Pearl didn't press Air Force in a game last season. But we all knew what his system was, even though he would modify it in certain games. Jeter said one thing when he was hired and we've seen something different in games. That's why I started this Jeter-ball thread - we're three games into this season and I have yet to know what our identity is.

Keep in mind the two games UWM has played this year don't really allow our team to run and press due to the physical make up of the opponents. When the time is right, I have faith you will see a winning style of basketball.

SLU is a team that we slowed it down last for year as well - I believe we scored 50-something points in that game. Southern Illinois only scored 42 against them last night, and SLU appears to be much-improved over last season. It'll be interesting to see whether or not Jeter tries to play an up-tempo game against them.
