He really should not have come to the game. Much better to catch up in the off season. Rob did the right thing, no question. I'm sure Bruce meant no harm but should have thought about his actions more. Rob did not do the same thing, not even close. This team will be fine. They are still feeling their way through things. Let's look forward to a win on Saturday.

I dont even know why this is a big deal and is now on its third page. Whats done is done wheather you feel its right or wrong. No doubt Pearl meant no harm and Jeter just did what he felt was right.
One thing I do wonder about is why have the players turned on Jeter so soon. I dont question your knowlege or really expect an answer but it just baffles me. Turmoil after 3 games seems rather rash. I understand that many players were close to Pearl and they loved his style, but I would think they would place winning ahead and try to adopt Jeters style of play and follow the rules he has laid down. I understand it is difficult going from no rules to strict rules can be hard but all the players said in the off season they wanted to just win and prove the nay sayers wrong in the teams run last march.
Anyway winning heals all wounds so I hope the team gets back on the winning way so the players are happy, recruits want to keep coming here and the fan base continues to grow and be happy.
I know this post was lots of ramble, but I just feel so many fans are hitting the panic button too fast. I just hope the players dont do the same.

This is an interesting thread.
On Pearl. We owe him gratitude for a doing a great job. I wish he had stayed. There wasn't that big of a difference in money after UWM offered what TN was offering as a base salary.
He could have done for us what Huggins did for Cincy and what Mc Guire did for MU.
Still it wasn't that he left, it was how he left. He clearly was negotiating before that last game. You don't pu together a million dollar deal that quickly.
Most important to me it was he said. "If I didn't leave I'd be stuck in Milwaukee for the rest of my life." and "I came here because I want to win the NCAA championship."
He basically told every recruit this is a bad place to come. Don't think that coaches we're up against in recruiting wars aren't repeating his words.
Plus he told every Panther fan not to waste their time dreaming of getting to the top.
Some players were pretty pissed at him for leaving, Tigert especially. In a Journal article he basically said he was tired of hearing how Pearl did it all pointing out that they still had to have five guys on the court running BP's game plan.
Maybe he was going to tell the team to follow Jeter. But maybe Jeter didn't want divisions on the team, between players who wanted to talk to BP and those who didn't.
Has anyone heard of a coach who left a program come to see that team and try to talk to them in the locker room after a game? I sure haven't.
Jeter was right. It's his team. Pearl can be loose cannon and it was better not to take the chance.

Just thought I would say that tonight I went to the Miller Time Pub and asked Jeter about this incident.
He said it never happened. He also said that while he appreciated BP and his staff showing up to show their support he was concerned that rumors would start from their appearance.
The man said BP and his staff NEVER asked to talk to the team after the game and never approached the Locker room. He also said a rumor like that does a disservice to the team, to him and to BP.

Most important to me it was he said. "If I didn't leave I'd be stuck in Milwaukee for the rest of my life." and "I came here because I want to win the NCAA championship." He said that? f*** an A, you guys, we don't owe that asshole anything. You can nix his part in Sweet Sixteen out if he sabotages UWM's recruiting by telling everyone this is a bad place to come. Personally, if I see the man, I'm going to spit in his face for saying that about the city that I grew up in. Bruce Pearl shouldn't be sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. What I can't believe is that you guys are just going to sit and take it. I mean, we can all be certain that he isn't lying when he says it. But to publicly criticize the place and be a blatant c***sucker gets my blood boiling. I hope the Tennessee program dies and takes him down with it. I can't believe I'm actually holding the same views as Illini fans...but seriously, he verbally pissed on your leg if you're a UWM fan.

I think someone needs to chill a bit. I'm pretty sure that what he meant was that he'd be "stuck" at UW-Milwaukee his entire life, a quality mid-major program, but one that would never lead him to an NCAA title. Tennessee, an SEC school, gives him that opportunity. The comment was only a portion of what he said about why he left. He was also incredibly complimentary to UWM, the city, the fans, the players, everyone.

I disagree. What was that school on Wisconsin Ave before Mc Guire got there: A quality mid major.
And you can be as a complimentary as you want to be to a city, and university that you just dissed on national tv, that way you don't look like a total jerk.

A. No one cares what MU was 30 years ago, this thread has nothing to do with them.
2. Who cares what Bruce said, he's not UWM's coach anymore
D. Jimmy I believe you weren't even here when Bruce was, maybe instead of hoping he goes down, you wish him the best and remember him as a coach who took UWM to their first NCAA tourney. Get a clue, relax.
GO PANTHERS

Ironically, this relates back to an article BP wrote on collegeinsider.com entitled: "Such is the Life of a Midmajor;" after reading this it doesn't surprise me one bit that he left, but I'm still upset about it.
I'm not expecting enormous success out of UWM any time soon- they're only been a division 1 program for 16 years. When I was a little kid i was a badger football fan and followed badger/MU basketball to a certain degree. It wasn't until my senior year in high school (when I knew I was going to attend UWM) that I began following Panther basketball. This just happened to be the same year that they went to the tourney for the first time.
There's no real point in getting upset about BP, because nothing is going to change. Until UWM can become a team that regularly wins non-conference games against tough opponents and can land solid recruits, they're probably going to get a new coach ever 4 or 5 years. Just enjoy the success and hope the program continues to rise. I like what Jeter is doing so far, and I hope that he continues his recruiting while he's here, because he's very good at it.

Smart move by Jeter. After the game Rob Jeter did not allow the players to talk to Pearl and the rest of the staff that was here. Pearl was going to wait but Jeter told him to not stick around, Pearl obliged and left without saying a word to the team who he guided to the 2005 Sweet 16...And then Rob Jeter has gone back to Madison since hes been coach to talk to some Badger players..this is very disturbing to me that they are not so far from Knoxville and Pearl makes the effort to come over and he gets shut out by Jeter....
