Soderberg is a tool who couldnt coach himself out of a paper bag.....uwm wins if they can speed it up a bit....but that is tough against the no talent basketball slu plays.....

St Louis doesn't have the best talent around, but they have one of the best coaches in college buckets. They will give the Panthers all they can handle. You really think this? I may wrong (I often am), but I don't think Soderberg is all that respected or feared in the coaching circles.

I agree with taking McCoy out of the starting line-up, I actually thought we should have done that after the Memphis game, I think adding Massiah to the 4 spot can give us two rebounders especially against HL teams, plus Massiah can score from all over the court whereas McCoy has a tendency to take bad shots and make stupid plays... He does however provide a defensive spark off the bench as showed in the UIC game last year at home.. If we were to start Smith however we could move Joah back to the 4 spot and let him play moreso in the post like he did last year and especially against Illinois and Memphis. Either way i think McCoy needs to be moved to the 6th or 7th man spot in the rotation... St Louis is a beatable team, even if we play the style that Rob Jeter likes to play i see them as being beaten...
see you all at the game saturday

I agree that McCoy should be out of the starting lineup. I thought he was great off the bench last season, and should stay in that same role. Massiah is a player very similar to Joah and could before the seasons end become a great combination. The problem is that he hasn't played up to his potential yet, and has been very tenative.
My favorite lineup on the court would be this. 1 Avery Smith 2 Boo Davis 3 Kevin Massiah 4 Joah Tucker 5 Adrian Tigert
The swing will still give Joah opportunites to step out and take the 3 (which he obviously loves), but he will spend most of his time getting to the basket and getting offensive rebounds.
A 3 guard lineup with Chris, Boo, and Avery would be interesting, but rebounding could become a problem. Though I'm not against it in anyway.

I like the thoughts of that line up, however like you say rebounding does pose a problem. I have been saying for some time that Jason McCoy isn't a starter. It's not the type of game he plays. I almost wonder if a smaller lineup would be worth looking at this year since the addition of Ricky Franklin next year might influence coach Jeter to play a smaller lineup next year (Massiah, Smith and Franklin)

I never understood why McCoy started this year at all. If Jeter was trying to get more size in there then might as well have gone with Ford that way there is atleast a true big man in there. But I would have like to have seen Massiah in there from the start. I wonder if there were thoughts that Young would be able to step in and start right away and when that was not the case the 5th spot when up to the player that showed the most hustle, imporvement, ect in pratice. But I think its time to get Mccoy out of there. I agree with bball, we will probably see a small line up next year so lets get use to playing one now. The only game we will need to make adjustments is against Wisconsin because of their size.

Jeter says Young isn't ready yet. Let's hope he gets ready soon because I don't see Mc Coy as a starter either

I want to be clear I'm not knocking Hill or McCoy, both of whom will be essential to our success this year, but I think that lineup is about as much talent as we can throw on the floor at one time.
A couple other random thoughts related to this thread:
Soderberg is a very good bench and game coach, and also a very smart guy and a very nice guy. Recruiting is his bugaboo, although he was the guy who got a commitment from Devin Harris (I was watching when he did it). SLU would be smart to stick with him and let him develop that program.
Jeter is obviously right that Tyrone Young isn't ready. He has been almost completely ineffective, and looks like he's having a hard time adjusting to the speed of the game. I'm surprised because Vincennes plays at a pretty high level as far as Jucos go. I wish I had seen him play before to determine if this is a guy who simply didn't deserve the reputation he had as a player or whether these are just adjustment issues. Some kids just take longer to adjust to being thrown in with players every bit as good as they are. Obviously, I hope it's the latter.

it seems Young has the numbers to prove the talent so i'm hoping he's just taking longer than expected to pick up the system. what bothers me most about him though has been his utter lack of defensive ability. i can really only gauge my comments on the limited exposure i've had to him on the court... but he just wasn't moving quick enough, and certainly not seeing the floor well enough even against UIU. that's a little scary. it's one thing not to comprehend a system early on, it's another entirely different thing to look like you're not hustling your a$$ off to at least demonstrate a desire to get in the game. i hope i'm wrong and he starts gelling soon cause we need him, or Massiah to step up and be the Boo Davis of last year.

I was as high as anyone here on Young, but since I already lost my lunch money betting on the guy (thought he would break out against UIU) I think it will be Massiah that will step up or no one. But keep in mind Avery Smith already has stepped up, so if we are looking for someone to be the 2nd shooter like Boo did last year I think we should be looking towards next year because I just dont see anyone on our roster that will do that this year.

IMO, if we are going to have 3 scoring threats, it's going to be Joah, AT, and Boo.
IMO, this is a game where Joah has to stop feeling sorry for himself, assert his dominance, and play like a pre-season POY should.
I think that guys like Massiah and Avery Smith can be definite contributors, but I think expecting them to carry the load may be asking too much.

What Joah needs to do is stop shooting 3's and start driving and banging down low. Thats his game, period. I know he wants to show scouts he can shoot, but right now the 3's aren't droping.
I also agree, Joah, AT and Boo are the scoring threats. And if Avery Smith and Massiah can combine to give the team what Boo did last year it can make us a stronger team because the more guys that CAN get hot make a team harder to defend.

I am worried that Joah is more concerned with how he is perceived by scouts (are there even any at our games?) than he is in integrating his game into this new offense. From my conversations with those in the know, it does seem like he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder for some reason. EDIT: I hate days when I can't spell.

we certainly don't need Joah jacking up 6 3's and missing them all. had he just played his game at TTU we likely walk out with a W. no scout's gonna be impressed by a 3-point shooting percentage of ZERO. those will come when he gets the inside game going. without him banging down low we won't have much of a post presence at all.
