Caught it while watching the TMJ4 sports section on the news just minutes ago. I hope like hell UWM can find a way to give Bruce at least 2/3 of that to keep him.

From the CBS 58 Web site ... comments we are going to get later on the show:
UW-Milwaukee coach Bruce Pearl discussed his interactions with the University of Tennessee on Sunday's Bruce Pearl show which airs weekly on CBS 58 Milwaukee.
Among Pearl's comments:
"I have talked to Tennessee about their position"
"Folks at UWM have put a package together in advance of any offer"
"We are wrestling with it right now, I may go back to Tennessee for another look later on this week."
"It's an exciting opportunity because it's a place you can with a national championship from."
"Tennessee is one of the best athletic programs in the country, I'm honored that they are considering me."
"It's not good timing because my son is a senior in high school, we feel like we just got here and our work is not done."
"I've got to do what's bets for my family, we'll have to continue to work on this and see what happens over the next few days."

FROM NBC Affilialiate WBIR :
Report: Vols offer job to Pearl Steve Phillips, Sports Director Last Updated: 3/28/2005 12:42:19 AM
A Milwaukee TV station has reported Tennessee has offered its head basketball coaching position to Bruce Pearl.
NBC affiliate WTMJ reported the Vols have made an offer worth approximately $800,000 per year to Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Bruce Pearl. The station says Wisconsin-Milwaukee officials are attempting to sweeten Pearl's contract with the school, worth roughly $250,000 a season.
Several sources report Pearl visited Knoxville Saturday after meeting in Chicago with Vols Athletic Director Mike Hamilton on Friday. It is expected Pearl and his wife Kim will be back in the Knoxville area early next week.
Pearl has been the focus of UT's search since Friday. Late Saturday, both UAB's Mike Anderson and Creighton's Dana Altman withdrew their names from consideration for the job.
Charlotte's Bobby Lutz has interviewed for the position and is still a candidate.
Pearl's Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers were one of the darlings of the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 before losing to top ranked Illinois.

Nohops, noone had Bruce Pearl on their radar before the tournament, that's why Bud didn't do anything.

The Tennessean also says $800,000 -- plus extras (that Pearl also has here, radio shows, endorsements, etc.). Lucky UT didn't find the "right coach" costing a lot more.
Monday, 03/28/05
KNOXVILLE – Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Bruce Pearl will be introduced today at a 2 p.m. press conference as Tennessee's next men's basketball coach.
Two people familiar with UT's search process said Pearl agreed to a five year deal that will pay him approximately $800,000 per year. He becomes the Vols' sixth head coach in the last 16 years after Buzz Peterson was fired on March 13.
Pearl, 45, will be in town later today with his wife, Kim, after meeting with UT President John Petersen and UT Athletics Director Mike Hamilton in Knoxville on Saturday.
Last night on his final coach's show at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Pearl said Tennessee was a place where you could win national championships.

No one had BP on their radar before the tournament?! GMAFB, how long have you not been following this team? BP made his splash 2 years ago and the wave has been building since for him to get a big time gig.

I've been following the team since 1990 when I attended school there.
Tell me one team that had him in serious consideration prior to the tournament?
UMass, if anyone. UT had him as one of about 15 possibilities, and not a strong one.
Prove me wrong if you'd like.

i agree with nohops
UT might not ahve had him on their radar but other schools have had the though about brining him in. now you mihgt be right with the idea that he wasn't as sought after, until what he did in this tounrey, but he was still out there and the idea of him leaving, had already come up before.

Of course other schools have had thought of bringing him in. That's what happens when you're coaching a mid-major and have a bit of success. But he was not a serious candidate for any job until the win over Bama.
As far as nohops blaming Bud. Do you propose Bud should have gone to the chancellor, alums, etc. to try to get Bruce's salry up to say $600K two years ago than? You know what the response would have been, don't you? WTF has this guy done to deserve a 100% pay raise. He got us within one point (blown layup) of winning a game in the dance, that = 100% pay raise? No, he'd never get it. Should Bud have said well IF Bruce gets us through the Horizon tourney this year, and IF we're lucky enough to get a good matchup in the first round this year, (and let me tell you something, we were fortunate to get a 12 seed when you look at the numbers) and IF we then matchup well enough with the second round team, then we might get other schools to look more seriously at our coach...so let's see if we can do something now.
That's a lot of ifs to try to be proactive in losing BP IMO. That's all I'm saying.

You have to be joking, seriously I hope you are. The contract plans should have been in place before the start of this season that making the NCAA tournament and winning the Horizon League again would bring a major upgrade in pay again. We knew grabbing him 4 years ago there was a good chance he was stopping here and not staying. If you want to be a proving grounds fine, but why the hell should I accept pitiful excuses about remaining a mid-major unable to compete with coaches above the Horizon League. If all you expect is that then why expect the program to grow at all. BTW, he had already won a post-season game last year in the NIT. To add one last thing, you sound like a BCS apologist when you talk about UWM getting favorable matchups instead of the fact that they ate Bama and BC's lunch.

If, as is the rumour, they offered him 700k then I don't think anyone can blame the AD. In fact, he's to be commended. If Pearl meant the stuff he said about family and loyalty, then that would have been enough.
