Does anybody have any ideas? Or dream coaches?
I personally hope if we are faced with this decision Bud looks for a coach with a similar style of play, an up tempo pressing style.
On the other hand if this Waters guy is what everyone makes him out to be maybe a slower style of play with some post play wont be that bad.
I won’t lie I do root for the Badgers, but damn after watching the Panthers all season watching the Badgers play is like watching paint dry. I did hear on the news a rumor that Rob Jeter the Badgers assistant would be a good fit at UWM because he was an assistant at UWM to Bo Ryan before Pearl arrived.
It would do us well to get more fans in the seats if we do hire a coach with a run and gun attitude. I doubt that Jeter would bring that style of play given his mentor Bo Ryan.
Let’s just hope that Pearl has his eyes on another job not Tennessee so he sticks it out a year makes a run with his 7 seniors then has dibs on any job he wants.
I just can’t picture BP in Tennessee everybody moves so slow down there and BP is like the energizer bunny.
I took a road trip to New Orleans a few years back and I remember stopping for food and gas in Tennessee it drove me nuts how slow the people moved. It’s just a whole different culture south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Up here we have Jimmy John’s who literally has your sub in your hand before you even get your change. Down there you get a hillbilly who calls you a Yankee and takes 10 minutes to get you your so called fast food.

Rick Majeras lives in Milwaukee right now.......... he is the perfect fit for if Bruce leaves.
he has recruited in the state in years past with Utah and I think he is ready to get back on the hardwood and start winning again. His competitive nature would be a nice addition here and wouldn't drop off any from Bruce's
thats all i have

Mr. Tony "Banana Suit" Jones!
KNows the system, knows the players, has had a huge hand in the recruiting. He was ready to take his own head coaching job with eastern mich. why not UWM instead. however, i would rather have BP stay another year for sure.

How about Jack Bennett.
Another small college success story. 2 National titles 2 elite eights and multiple conference championships.
Born and raised in the state
Not going to dash off to greener pastures - wants to be in Wisconsin
Keeps the game uptempo (actually not like his brother - wins like his brother, but plays uptempo)

ill reiterate...no Jack Bennett.....and Jack Bennett does not play uptempo....we've seen uptempo for four years and Jack Bennett is not uptempo...plus lets face it four years ago UWM was at a level where a D3 or D2 coach was an option but now it is at a level where we need an accomplished D1 assistant or lure someone else from a mid major program...Plus Jack Bennett is not near the marketer Bruce is...Jack is a good coach but he is not the right fit for Milwaukee....Bruce can market this program, he can coach it, and he plays an exciting brand of ball

You need to look up the stats!
Points team this year was 2nd in their league in scoring - 73.2 ppg UWM scored 75 ppg
I think the 1.8 ppg difference is not very significant.
Anyone who has heard Jack Bennett speak publically knows that he is an unbelievable marketer/spokesperson for a program.
As for the D-II/D-III thing - you must not have grown up in Wisconsin. Dick Bennett moved from Point to UWGB and put away Jason Kidd when he played for California. Bo Ryan resurrected UWM's program and has had the program lifted to even greater heights by a guy who came from the D-II ranks. Jack Bennett could do the same thing if you just pass the torch to him.
If he's hired there will be some ignorant people (ignorant from the standpoint of them not know him, no their intelligence) who will not like the hire. This will be temporary.
Coach Jeter is a very honorable man and probably a good coach - but do you really trust putting him or Coach Jones in charge of a program when they've never had to call a timeout, make a substitution, had the final say on a discipline issue,....hell, they've never had to do anything a head coach has to do. If one of them gets the job then you should be nervous, because you won't know what you'll be getting. Head Coach is only 9-15 inches down the bench, but it is in reality a world apart from being an assistant.
Hire Jack Bennett and you know what you'll be getting.
Hire Rick Majereus and you'll know what you'll be getting.
Hire Steve Lavin and you'll know what you'll be getting.
Hire Jeter and Jones and you'll be getting someone who looks good in a suit, but you won't know until the pressure is on how they'll react to their new set of responsibilities.
Yes, it works out - hiring an assistant every now and then....But what usually works - as has been the case in the state of Wisconsin - is to hire the person who's been in the line of fire before.
Bennett (Dick), Ryan, Pearl, and now it's time for Jack Bennett.

Jack Bennett will not be hired. He has stated he will either return to Point or more likely, retire.

That's not true....he said he may retire, but is interested in looking for new challenges. (i.e. UWM or another scholarship situation)

So then what I said was true. He said he may retire.

Yes...you were right - he might retire - however, you were wrong if you think he wouldn't entertain coaching at UWM.
As for Coach Jones - he's from Michigan, why wouldn't he have been named one of the final five. Evidently he didn't "withdraw from consideration" like Altman at UT.

If Majerus wants to do it, he's the "no-brainer" choice. Following up a sweet 16 performance with the naming of a someone with his stature would keep the movement going.
But I see little reason to think that Majerus would want it after leaving Utah and flipping on USC. I suppose it might be more attractive to him because he could stay home but he really seems to be convinced that coaching is not conducive to his health. If he thinks - or would treat this - as a "low pressure" job (although I don't think a guy like that is capable of half speed), then we should not want him.
For me, the question is whether Tony Jones can promote the program and he just may have the kind of flamboyancy that can do that. If Bruce leaves, they ought to look very closely at him. Assistants sometimes work out real well. All the great coaches started that way.

Majeras would be cool, but I don't see it happening. He would be able to recruit well and bring instant validation to how great this program is becoming (though the trip to the Sweet 16 should have validated this program). He would help continue to build up our national reputation as well (adding on to the Sweet 16). But he turned down USC...but he lives in Milwaukee...would he do it?
