"A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Panthers make their first-ever appearance in the “Sweet Sixteen” of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, and their second-ever appearance in the tournament; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers' post-season success represents their record- setting play throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, each additional victory adds to a school record for wins in a single season, including fourteen wins to two losses in Horizon League play, and a second in the nation record of eleven regular season road victories; and
WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Panthers, having won nineteen out of their last twenty games, and earned a share of the nation's longest current winning streak at eleven consecutive games; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers earned their second straight Horizon League regular season title, building on the program's first-ever league title achieved last year; and
WHEREAS, Panthers' Coach Bruce Pearl in addition to being named Horizon League Coach of the Year for the third time, is one of ten finalists for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year honor; and
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin is proud to claim ties to the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Men's Basketball team for their achievements above and beyond all expectations; and
WHEREAS, their performance, determination, and courage symbolizes the spirit of collegiate athletics and their achievements have made the State of Wisconsin very proud;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Doyle, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, on behalf of the citizens of this great state and in honor of these outstanding athletes, do hereby proclaim Thursday March 24, 2005 as
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - MILWAUKEE PANTHERS DAY
in the State of Wisconsin and commend this observance to all citizens.
